is there a huge difference between the american made palomino amps compared to the vietnam made ones in terms of quality tone and reliability?

Re: (crate) palomino amps

Vietnam made ones?

the ones sold in guitar center in a limited run were made in the US, they dont sell them anymore.

the ones sold in musiciansfriend.com now i believe are made in vietnam, for the V8's at least. not sure with the higher models (v16,v32 etc etc..).

some complain that the V8's made in vietnam had poor quality and bad tone, while the lucky ones who got the US version were really really satisfied.

the US V8 sold at guitar center was around 280usd, IIRC. the V8's sold in MF now are cheaper, 199 usd.

im curious whether cost cutting was achieved thru cheaper parts, or was it just based entirely on cheaper labor..

im also curious between the quality between the two versions (specifcally the v8's)

Re: (crate) palomino amps

If I'm not mistaken they are all pretty much made in China. St. Louis Music (Crate, Ampeg) hasn't made amps in the U.S. for quite a while.

I had a V-32 Palomino for a good while and with a G12H30 in it, it becomes a poor mans Matchless...good sounding amp. The only bad thing I can say about it was the build quality....mine had to be fixed a couple of times, so I let it go.

Re: (crate) palomino amps

I've had my V32 Palomino (bought it in Guitar Center) for a while and (knock on wood) haven't had a single issue with her. It's a great sounding class A amp and you simply can't do better for the price. I had a car accident two years ago and my Crate survived it with a huge crack in the side. Believe it or not, the amp sounded just as good afterwards as before and I love carrying it around - it's always a great conversational piece. :D

with all the reviews ive read and heard, as long as your palomino is bought at guitar center, the non-import model, your V32 would last.. i wish i bought one when GC was still selling them.
