crate power block

Re: crate power block

Price (incl shipping) is too high for what you get. I got mine years ago when they discontinued and closed out....new for $99.
If you want a ss lightweight rig to use as a backup, THIS one is more versatile and better sounding IMO (I have one of these as well). That's not to say the Crate isn't good, just that there are better values to be had. People are jacking the asking prices up because they are no longer made.

Re: crate power block

The Quilter Labs 101 Mini Head runs circles around the Power Block. I had the opportunity to try it and the new Pro Block. Very loud, could be used as a main rig even. May cost a little more but comparatively, it's worth it.

Re: crate power block

I got my power block new for $80+tax. its a great little device but I think they have better stuff now for around the same price people are paying for them used

Re: crate power block

I got a used one for $100 at guitar center a couple months ago but I returned it immediately. I thought it was terrible. It had a very muffled quality to the tone that I can't stand on guitar amps. Whether using the amp gain or pedals it sounded very bad distorted.

Re: crate power block

I use mine every day...to pump the center channel audio from my home theater to four speakers covering my kitchen.

Re: crate power block

The power block was a neat concept, however, they had QC problems where some of the units would enter protection mode & shut off when the chip would overheat even when with a fan built it or minor impedance mismatches.

At the price its going for I'd pass on it but for $99 it would have been a good deal for new one. Its odd no one makes a product like it anymore, size & feature wise it could be a very good backup, rehearsal or pedalboard amp. The ehx magnum tops at 44W i think while the crate is 150W mono.

Re: crate power block

Yeah, Id like to have scored one at a close out. I was just putting it up cuz someone mentioned looking for one. But good discussion... The quilter ones pretty good huh?? been curious..

Re: crate power block

i keep the power block in my car as a fix all. its been a bass amp, pa, guitar amp, anything that requires volume. the preamp is passable but not great. its saved my ass a bunch of times when something went down and i needed a quick fix
