Yup, saw that about the speakers. Wonder if that's the vintage 10 in the V8. Have you heard these amps? Are they much different in tone and volume?
I've got a few class A amps from the sixties with low wattage, but they are loud. Not plexi loud, but loud.

I've seen them, but not played them.
In my VC 20, I replaced all the tubes, el84-JJ, pre amp- GT's and put a Celestion G12H30 in there, and I really like it- warm deep sound with lots of response. The harder you play the nastier it gets, play soft, sounds sweet.

The Crate V58 is a 5 watt class A tube amp with an eight inch speaker. The V16 is a 15 watter with reverb and a 12 inch speaker. The V16 is identical to the V1512 that I own except for the looks and I believe the speaker is different although I am not sure. My V15 sounds awesome, they are great amps, all sorts of sweet tones. Both amps are EL84 powered

Hey B Bent, it was your post that got me all jazzed up about these amps! I need something much quieter than the V32 though. There are a LOT of people waiting for your review from your previous thread. Throw'em a bone, lol

I started the review, but then decided to do it when I was in front of the amp, so I accidentally posted a partial review and then went to delete the partial and deleted the whole thread!! Yeah, I can get anything from totally clean to authentic hendrix sounds to ACDC crunch to all out totally sustaining distortion on my V1512. The distortion isn't as extreme as a Blue Voodoo but in my opinion sounds better and you could easilly use an OD to punch it up for metal. Great vintage tone though and nice speakers, mine came with a Celestion Seventy 80 stock. My favorite tone is with the volume maxed, the gain low and my guitar volume backed off so I get mild overdrive from the power tubes only.

There's anothe version of the V1512 which is the V1512T. The only difference is that it has a Tone Tubby speaker and is I think $499. Dude, you're getting me way juiced up over these amps. Bad schecterplayer--bad bad schecterplayer!

I think the V58 is a great amp. That little 8" Celestion isn't bad and the amp is definitely loud enough for a nice practice amp. I played through one a couple of months ago when I was looking for a tube amp replacement for my Pignose and if I pulled the trigger it definitely would've been the V58. You have to play one!

If I got that model--which I'm leaning towards because it's the least amount of wattage--I would probably get the V8 which has a 10" Celestion. That's the only difference besides the white tolex and V8 emblem.

This could be BS, but the salesman I was talking too said that Crate changed the circuitry for the better when they went to the V58... so I think there's more difference than just the speakers. At this point I think it's better to just play the 2 and let your ears decide.

I was going to get the tone tubby model originally but they had a shortage of the speakers and while I was waiting for one to come into the shop I realized that I really liked the normal model so I stopped waiting and got it. Im gushing over this amp so much because I just got it on friday and before that I was using an old Pignose clone that my dad built when he was in high school and the speaker was starting to go. This is my first tube amp and I have been having a lot of fun with it. I do think it sounds better than the Fender Blues Jr. though which is the only similar model I have tried.
