Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

Guys guys guys!

What if I ordered a humbucker that's basically 2 Hot Rails glued together, with the all 4 coils running in SERIES?!\

Yeah? YEAH? YEAAAHH???????

OR

What if we make a Custom/Hot Rail Hybrid?! One coil of Custom + a full blown Hot Rail?!

I know this all sounds retarded, but seriously, it makes me wonder!

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

It's been done before, dimarzio had some like this, also I had a mother bucker that was 3 coils in the space of 2, I think it was a mighty might or something?

It might work ok in parallel but in series it's way too hot and muddy sounding. No definition just lots of output.

I do have a bare knuckles Blackhawk like this too, it's very low in terms of resistance but it puts out a lot because of all the blades and magnets.

I still need to get a set of fuglybuckers from the custom shop, half rail, half parallel axis. Those were pretty good sounding I guess.

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

Why stop at 2? Glue 8 of those together!
(actually, 2 Hot Rails in series would possibly be terrible, but both in parallel, and then in series with each other might be interesting).

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

I still would like to see a P-Rail with Invader poles and magnets in the P section and an A8 Rail.

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

I briefly had a guitar with a Dimarzio quad-coil pickup... can't remember what it was called. It wasn't my thing, but that pickup ate puppies and children with the gain cranked...

LOL now THAT is an experiment!

I was considering this very setup the other day. I have a quad rail pickup that I want to combine with a neck pickup. Not sure how the magnet configuration would work, I'm fairly certain the quad rail has multiple magnets. Maybe I'll post it if I ever get around to doing it.

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

I have a friend who is really into Spinal Tap and asked about building one of those to hang on his wall.... He freaked when I quoted my price.

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

If he only wants it as wall art tell him I will build it for cheap: cheap strat copy + 4 super cheap humbuckers + spray paint = spinal tap on a budget. I even have a Sun tach if he doesnt mind a black bezel!

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

Yes - it's for wall art. I should tell you his standards are pretty high.... he is a well-known scale modeler and close won't cut it. So, feel free to make a quote.

Re: Crazy Custom Shop Ideas!

I put em in series with tele wiring. Bridge, middle, both in series. Power slop :fing2: You guys are a bad influence on me. I also got a quality body from warmoth since squier can't possibly be as good. Nope, just different. Squiers and Epis with Duncans kill.
