Crazy genious SSS strat wiring idea(?)

stratocaster SSS wiring idea/theory.

hopefully this works . i think it would be a killer switch.

here are the drawings i'm looking at.

instead of a push/pull, how about a mini switch. a DPDT ON/OFF/ON switch to be exact.

if i'm reading/thinking right, you would be able to turn on the neck pickup and get the extra 2 sounds (7 total), PLUS you would get a some bonus sounds because you could also invert the phase of the neck pickup.

switch ON
1)bridge+neck
2)bridge+middle+neck
3)middle+neck
4)middle+neck
5)middle+neck

switch OFF (normal strat)

switch ON (invert phase)

1)bridge+OPneck
2)bridge+middle+OPneck
3)middle+OPneck
4)middle+neck+OPneck
5)neck

so if my math is right ----
with an ON/ON switch you get 2 extra sounds (7 total)
with an ON/OFF/ON switch you get 3 extra sounds

you basically double what a 5way switch does with a measly 3 way mini toggle.

it makes sense to me, but i'm NOT a wiring guru. can someone please confirm this crazy idea will work? ? ? ??? (or confirm i'm crazy. either way is good)

I'm afraid I don't follow. The phase switch is a DPDT on/on. If you wire a DPDT on/off/on in the same way then you'd have normal/off/reverse phase.

OK, what you can do with a simple DPDT on/on is add the neck pickup out-of-phase, yielding the following:

5 traditional strat tones
bridge & neck OOP
bridge & middle & neck OOP
middle & neck OOP
middle & neck OOP
neck OOP

What it doesn't give you are the bridge & neck together in phase and all three together in phase.

It might be much easier to use 6 2 position switches and wire it just liek Brian May did on his Red Special...3 on/off switches for each pickup and 3 phase switches for each pickup...

If you wanted to use just 3 switches buy switches for a Fender Mustang guitar...a vintage Mustage is wired up with a master volume and a master tone and a 3 position slide switch for each pickup the 3 positions are on/off/on but with phase swapped...

thats exactly what i mean/want. an ON/ON switch gives you 2 options. the ON/OFF/ON gives you 3 options. the OFF option of the switch takes the switch out of the circuit (normal strat). physically speaking the switches are the exact same size. so you can get an extra option.

right. that is with a 2 option switch. with a 3 option switch i can have (hopefully) the normal "neck on" functionality AND some phase options.

i would rather have a standard 5 way strat switch, and then add an ON/OFF/ON switch. to me it seems "cleaner". i've had guitar(s) with the 3 mini switches. i can work with it, but it feels better to me with a 5 way.

right. that is with a 2 option switch. with a 3 option switch i can have (hopefully) the normal "neck on" functionality AND some phase options.

The on/off/on is still a two-throw switch, and the two throws are the same as the those in an on/on. What that means is that a center-off isn't going to get you there... the "third option" on a center-off is really a "no option" because the common is open. There simply aren't the lugs to do the phase reversal and the "neck on" on a DPDT switch.

This may be doable with a 4PDT switch. It would be a piece of cake with a 3T2P switch, like Fender 3-way, if you don't mind a second blade-style switch.
