Crazy idea, can it work?

Alright, I have a strat with hotrails in the bridge, I absolutely love this pickup. It's got bite, edge, insane gain, everything I want. I recently bought a Gibson Flying V, and I love everything about the guitar except the pickups. They just arent as hot as I'd like. I was wondering if I could fit two hotrails in the bridge pickup slot and wire the guitar as so: bottom position is just the bottom hotrail, middle position is both hotrails in the bridge slot, and top position is the neck pickup. I think the two hotrails going full on at the same time would be nuts and hotter than if they were in seperate slots. Is this possible?

welcome to the forum!!

it can be done, but i dont think youll be able to use that switch and you might have to modify the guitar to get two hot rails in the slot for a bucker. to me it makes more sense to get an invader

Re: Crazy idea, can it work?

I was thinking an invader, but they're not the sound I'm looking for, fatter than the hotrails. I want that really tight, edgy, a bit thinner sound from the hotrails.

i think that'd be your problem there - a hotrails is mounted closer to the bridge than a full bucker - both coils are going to sound much edgier.. fitting another hotrail, but further away from the bridge is gonna sound much like an invader anyway, because of the increased string vibration..

I think "crazy idea's" like this are cool and innovative . . . but its your idea.

Try it, and tell us if it works. :laugh2:

Re: Crazy idea, can it work?

you can put 2 rails in a bucker slot but you will have to open up the pickup route a little bit, and if you wanted to use 2 pickups in the bridge position AND another pickup in the neck the 3 way wouldn't work...

Alright, I'll see what the local shop can do, even though the owner is a bit conservative about these things.

Have you considered the Livewire Heavy Metal? It's silly hot. Check out the clip from the Duncan site... the CLEAN tone feedsback!

Re: Crazy idea, can it work?

You can always order a Tony Iommi humbucker, in essence a hot rails in full humbucker form.
