Crazy new amp Pics!!!

This thing sat in my grandma's closet for... f*ck, I don't know how long, it belonged to my uncle, who died about 10 years ago.

Anyways, Jordan trouper J 120 from the name of it. It brags about being solid state.

I like the sparkly cloth... Hey, if nothing else it'll look good in my room fits the decor

controls for volume, bass, treble, and trem controls. all scratchy pots

75 watts it says, one 12 inch speaker. This is the biggest mystery- there's a position between off and on whos label is long gone, it doesn't seem to change the sound of anything at all... but it's there. What the f*ck. any clues

Anyways, as for sound... it's incredibly bright and compressed, very solid state sounding as you can imagine... I have no clue when it was made, 30, 40 years old? It's almost as likely to be a bass amp as my bass sounds better through it.

Just for kicks, a barely playable Yamaha 12 string I found. Caved top.

anyone got info on Jordan amps of Pasadena?

If the power cord doesn't have three prongs, what it might do is switch the polarity of the power.

It was made by Jordan Electronics, who used to be located in Pasadena, and is now at this address. It's my guess that they don't make music products anymore, but they obviously did in the late 70's/early 80's.

I remember those - my high school's jazz band had one that no one ever used. That one was orange instead of yellow. That "75 Watts" is next to the power cord, so that means it's the power it draws from the wall. Output power is probably about half of that.

Jordan also made little plug-into-the-guitar-jack boosters. I got one free in the case of a used Teisco I bought in about 1975, my second electric. The Jordan didn't work though.

Cool amp, Dangly. Since it's worthless, keep it as a standby/conversation piece. If there's such a thing as 70's mojo, that amp's got it in spades.

Yeah, it sounds kind of horrible (very trebly, bright, compressed... awful really, the epitome of all that is bad about transistors) but I do think it would be pedal friendly...

I seriously like the way it looks... So I don't care about how it sounds, it'll look good when I truck it back to riverside.

Maybe I'll make a recording... I still think it might be a bass amp though. Any way I can find out for sure?

If you get ground hum, try it, one setting might be more noisy then the other.

no clue as to specifics, but 1976 is a good guess cause that's what my dad says though his memory sucks... sometime around there anyway.

The neck is alright, but the sound isn't quite to my liking (once again very compressed, a piano like tone) and the top is dished... the action is high, you can't play it above the 5th fret... I put some extra light strings on it to replace the muddy 20 year old ones... not my cup of tea but kind of cool.

heh, I could use a good dimmer switch... mood lighting

Hopefully I can avoid jordan? Or maybe make the amp into one big dimmer switch have it control different colored lights and sh!t.

interesting idea along with the other cave top crappy acoustic I got (6 string though)

Why do I have so many crappy acoustics and none that I like :smack: Though I don't mind inheriting gear from people who no longer play guitar

I'm afraid my uncle probably wanted to throw this thing off the cliff anyway... hence why he left it at my grandma's house
