Crazy noise when not touching the metal (but not a grounding issue)

Re: Crazy noise when not touching the metal (but not a grounding issue)

Sorry but this is absolutely related to grounding.

Re: Crazy noise when not touching the metal (but not a grounding issue)

Could the jack be wired backwards?

Get a meter set to ohms
Insert guitar cable into guitar
Check resistance from cable tip to bridge
Then from sleeve to bridge

Post results plz

I had the same issue once, Could not find out what was wrong. Turned out the main ground cable was broken (snapped) inside the tube, if you got cables inside tubes (rubber) check them.

Hmm, I will definitely give this a check...I use the same cables. But I don't know that it is the problem because you of touching the metal on the guitar body...

Re: Crazy noise when not touching the metal (but not a grounding issue)

Hey guys, so i just tried all three of my guitar, bc rich mockingbird (humbucking) my yamaha which is the one with problems, and my old fender strat, the fender strat had the same problem in humbucking, but not in single coil, the bc rich mockingbird had no problems at all... does this have to do with just older electronics? should i just replace all the pots?

Sounds like it's not the guitars but maybe the cable you're using or even the amp.

Try using a different cable first and see what happens.

No i would look at the outlets in your house. Do you have a ground lift on your amp?

I did that once, and boy was it noisy.
Agreed.

However, he said his only change was strings. Then he said all his guitars were doing it. I don't think it's the guitar(s) at all.

Re: Crazy noise when not touching the metal (but not a grounding issue)

Used different cables, my pedalboard, no pedals, two different amps, my tube amp and my solidstate

Re: Crazy noise when not touching the metal (but not a grounding issue)

Have used the outlets at my drummers house with my tube amp, and multiple different outlets in my house. All amps are grounded properly, they are modern amps too, a cube 40 and peavey 6534, nothing old or anything

OK, so all of your guitars and amps...

You don't have a T-Mobile or AT&T cell phone that's dropping into 3G, do you?

No, my mockingbird, and my friends jackson work fine... its just my fender strat, (but its quite abit smaller in noise compared to my yamaha) and I live in canada, so i dont have those phone carriers, i do have 4g on my phone but i generally pull it from pocket and put it on the couch about 2 meters away from gear..

Re: Crazy noise when not touching the metal (but not a grounding issue)

Ok I hope this helps. This is cable related. I have an old thread on this. I know you said you tried diff cables but give this a read. Some years back I had a weird problem. I had a JB as the only pickup in a V copy. It sounded good no issues my strat sounded good. Then I stopped playing for a while. A few months later I got a new cable, some pedals and when I plugged the guitars in I got a weird sound/ hum from the V. The stat with the single coils sounded fine. I thought t was grounding on the V so I double checked that everything was fine, the guitar was properly grounded. I just could not understand it. I put them away and the next day I used the old cable and the weird sound was not their, with wither guitar. I used the new one and again it was there but only with the V .For the record the old cable was generic cheap quality, and the new one a branded one ( I cant remember which one).

I still think this is a grounding issue, or some bad soldering/ fried pot or something. But double check your cables try diff brands. Take it to a diff tech.
