Crazy Pot Resistance Measurements

I have CTS Pots rated 250K each. Other codes on the backs are (EP885 0409) When I measure them I am getting the following measurements:

POT (A) wiper-full-on=61.2 off=54.5
POT (B) wiper-full-on=32.6 off=34.8

They aren't connected to anything and mymultimeter has fresh batteries. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

not to insult your intelligence, but do you have the multi-meter set on Ohms?

If so, then I am at a loss!

Re: Crazy Pot Resistance Measurements

Yeah, what Allen said to start with. If you accidently had it on "volts", thats about the right amount of millivolts you'ld pick up from the air.

Secondly, you're measuring across the outside two terminals, right?

And you aren't holding the probes against the terminals with your fingers, right? ;)

Thanks for the replies.
I'm measuring ohms, not voltage. I know I was because I went from measuring the resistance of the pickup right to measuring the pot. It is totally disconnected from anything and isn't touching anything, and I'm not not touching it. Just the leads. I don't wan't to have to take these apart and investigate because I recently got them from a dealer (from this forum) and I would hate to have to return them.
