creepy soundtrack thang from a couple weeks ago

Recorded this in a few hours a couple weekends ago with my friend Mike. We've been slowly forming an electronica project and this was our second attempt working together. I was going to wait to post this because I thought we were gonna work on a bit more (at minimum I think it needs a slightly less creepy keyboard part) but I think we've decided to go ahead and abandon it since it has similarities melodically to that godspeed song from 28 days later :p.

Hey that was pretty sweet!

Totally just downloaded it. Thanks for the groovy tune!

I enjoyed it. The soundscapes were hella chill and just kickin it. I would definitely like to hear a melody over this. Maybe like a sharp sounding lead synth...not too sharp, and not as in pitch. it would add some contrast, and it wouldn't have to be much of a melody, just a bit of something to latch onto. I'm hearing a very spaced out melody, and maybe something high on the piano with some verb...maybe even a toy piano/music box?

Post it if you update it at all.

totally pictured myself walking around a barren landscape looking for zombies to kill
very video game background kinda stuff

That last comment sounds kinda like its not a compliment, but it totally is.

Hey all thanks for your comments/feedback! And sorry it's taken so long to respond -- been super busy this past week. Of the three tracks I posted this was totally the one I thought would get the least response, but in the spirit of showing some follow-through I sat down for a few hours last night and came up with a melody to go over this. By the way -- no offense taken whatsoever by the zombie movie comments. That's what I was going for :)

Cream -- I took your advice and used a sharp sound for contrast. I tried some abrasive synths but couldn't vibe with it, so I ended up settling on this toy piano sound with a healthy dose of reverb thrown at it. I also ended up adding some glass bells to round things out.

The update starts at 1:48 -- I'll be curious to know what you guys think.

Cheers,
Amir

I like the changes you made! I would consider bring the bells and toy piano up a bit more and making the attacks harder to give it more timbral variation but it sounds good as is!

I liked the choice of the toy piano

one of my favorite songs features a toy piano/thumb piano dealio

Way cool man. Definitely an off kilter and sinister vibe... I was picturing a long drawn out scene of someone dismembering a body in a bathtub.

Awesome.

Re: creepy soundtrack thang from a couple weeks ago

Thanks guys! I updated the mix a little bit to bring the bells and toy piano up in the mix as requested. Let me know if that's better -- too much higher and it starts to overtake all of the other instrumentation.

By the way cream123, I LOVE tv on the radio. I feel like we're into a lot of the same music. Would love to collab on something with you. I might take a shot at soloing over that clip you just posted :D

New stuff on the way soon -- thank you everyone for all the helpful feedback.
