Critique my open mic set!

Re: Critique my open mic set!

IMO, the reverb on the guitar is too conspicuous. Can you make it less splashy or turn it down a little?

Re: Critique my open mic set!

meh, poorly. I got my usual case of "I'm on stage so I can't do anything the way I can a million times without thinking at home." Nothing new to see here. But it was somewhat enjoyable, a couple of buddies showed up. They said it sounded good but, what else would they say. Meh

Keep it up, you'll get there! I'm a pretty self conscious singer myself and it keeps me from even attempting an open mic so kudos to you for going up there and going for it. Performing in general is never easy at first. When I was playing guitar in a semi-popular local band it took me a few gigs to finally start thinking of live as a simple rehearsal and just a chance to have some fun and try to put on a good show. When I stopped taking it so seriously and started having fun the performance definitely grew by leaps and bounds.

yeah, I just get nervous. I once threw up before a band concert I had in HS. I've been performing for a few moons now, in a band or solo setting. I can never shake the fear. but I gotta keep trying

Re: Critique my open mic set!

You gotta use the "fear".....turn it into energy for your perfomance.
Playing in front of people, feels like driving fast on a bike or in a car for me......
It is scary when one is thinking too much about it, but fairly quickly back when I was young barely out of my teens kid, I turned it into energy for playing and concentration...could never tell much what I did or anything, but it was a good feeling...
Hope you'll be able to channel your obvious talent into something that will scare you:)
Love your stuff.

I used to get that, it actually kind of went away. I just get nervous now. Thanks for the kind words

Re: Critique my open mic set!

You are welcome, hmm that last sentence of mine was not written right.
I meant that your talent would be turned into something, that will use the nervous energy for something cool.....of course not to make you more nervous.....(hmm note to myself, do not type when tired;) )

As usual, i'm late to the party ... and i can't hear the tracks, there's no audio available on the linked pages.

Yup, absolutely. I used to get so nervous I could barely play in my early days. I was able to turn it around when i realised that the nervousness is an energy, but a negative one. I turned it into a positive force by changing the way I thought about it, and then the energy worked in my favour instead of pulling me down.

Feeling no nerves is the worst situation, because there's no energy of either kind. You just need to change some viewpoints to go from (basically) "I'm about to play live to a whole bunch of people ... OMG, where's the toilet ?" to "I'm about to play live to a whole bunch of people ... AWESOME ! Let's DO IT !! "

(I discovered that pacing around helps me while filling the last minutes before going onstage, getting the blood flowing seems to help with the positivity aspect).
