Crowther Audio Hotcake: honest or hokum?

Whoah Buddy,
I have it on seemingly reliable sources (okay, it was Vintage Guitar Mag.) that the Crowther Hotcake hangs with the big-boys at about half the chips. Is it true or is it (again) too daggum good to be true?
I dunno, i'm about ready to give out one or two additional 'handmade' gifts in order to fund this thing....speak now or forever hold your peace.

Never used one. Heard good things. SRV liked 'em, although he preferred the TS. If you can get one at a good price, worth checking out. I see 'em on eBay from time to time.

hotcakes are made in my town. Believe me, they are excellent. Very transparent od/boost at low gain levels, and a unique fuzz bottom end at high gain settings.

UK Guitarist compared the hotcake with five other boutique ods (including the Klon and the VERY expensive Cornish) and named it overall winner. Users include Chris Haskett, who called it 'aerosmith in a box', Noel Gallagher, Neil Finn, the guy from vertical horizon, Pavement, Sonic Youth...

There are actually three subtly different flavours of hotcake. I can get hold of them at a less than local retail price if anyone wants one. Unfortunately I can't get the very cool t shirts anymore.

Yup, thumbs up in my book. My mate plays the Hotcake through his AC30, & definitely gets a great overdriven tone from it. However, his stock SD1 has a little more transparency to my ears - some would intepret this as thinner, but I like it. If you're shopping around tho, check out the G2D Creamtone - amazing SRV overdrive.
