Curly maple body

Hello everyone,
I have a custom strat with a curly maple body and kneck. The pickups I currently have a set of hand wound pickups that are just to bright. I'm looking for a set that can go well with the guitar. I play blues/rock.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Curly maple body

What are the handwound pickups' specs? What were they wound to resemble? 50's style, 60's, Tex-Mex, etc...?

Maybe look into the Hotrails as those typically are criticized for being too warm. They are very hot (hence the name) but are great for Blues and Rock. Just a thought

Re: Curly maple body

I forget what specs are on the pickups but they're not working for this guitar. I do agree that hot rails would probably sound great but just a little to hot for this guitar. I'm looking for a more blusey single coil pickup that has some warmth.
Thanks

Re: Curly maple body

From a true single coil maybe a Quarter Pound set as they would fatten the tone up...but might be more output than you are wanting.

Re: Curly maple body

I agree with trey here. Maple bodies tend to be inherently bright, so you're probably going to have to compromise a bit if you want a single coil tone that's warmer, as that'll probably give you a bit more output.

Got any pics of the guitar?

Re: Curly maple body

Maybe some Alnico 2 Duncan Antiquity Texas Hots? With the Texas Hot
Custom bridge pickup.

Those are great pickups and warmer and thicker sounding than the Alnico 5 Antiquity Surfers or SSL-1's.

If you still want it to sound like a Strat, you can check out the APS-2 or the Five Two, which might filter out the inherent brightness of maple.
