Current rig pics.... what's yours?

Re: Current rig pics.... what's yours?

I'm using the BOSS Line Selector to have a foot-stompable method (vs. hands-on required method via the Roland interface unit installed directly on the guitar) to switch between either the MIDI signal coming from the Roland GK3 pup which is run through the Roland GR-20 unit, or just the pure analog guitar signal that is run through a bunch of pedals before hitting the amp. Although in either case, I have the Boss Boost/Feedbacker between the BOSS Line Selector and the amp, because this pedal works best (for feedback purposes, not boost purposes), when it is interfacing directly with the amp vs. having other pedals between it and the amp. I use the BOSS Boost/Feedbacker exclusively for feedback purposes (vs. boost) on the guitar signal, so it is always turned "on" (but not active until I stomp and hold it down).

The pedals are arranged on the board with the philosophy that the first row are those that I would regularly need to stomp on or off within a single song, and the backrow consists of pedals that are always either left "on" or rarely used. With that said, the analog signal path from start to finish has little relation to pedal placement, and goes as follows: BOSS Chromatic Tuner -> BOSS Auto-Wah 2 -> MXR Fullbore Metal -> Marshall Drive Master -> Big Muff Pi w Tone Wicker -> Digitech RP 355 (normally left in bypass mode, but I can quickly punch on for occasional add of delay or phase or chorus - or even drop a half-step in pitch, etc. - basically get many sounds out of a single unit) -> BOSS GE-7 -> BOSS Line Selector -> BOSS Booster/Feedbacker -> Fender BDRI -> Marshall 1960A

Addtionally, with the RP-355, I can turn off all the pedals preceding it, and get a really convincing bass guitar tone or acoustic guitar tone, plus turn on the built-on drum patterns for jam-along purposes.

I have a few Option Knobs installed on key pedal knobs like the rate on the Auto Wah and the Gain knob on the MXR Fullbore, so I can tailor those parameters easily on-the-fly.

The beauty of this set-up is that while it looks like (and is) a lot of options, it is very easy to swich "channels" or turn stuff on or off within a single song.

I was worried when I first hooked all this up that there would be some (if not a lot) of noise in the line, but it is quite quiet.

Following are gratuitous shots of the "wall art" in the rest of my music room/man cave that you glimpsed above - can you correctly identify some of the choice album covers/artist photo shoot fodder? - haha:

Re: Current rig pics.... what's yours?

Here's a photo of my 1988 Fender Studio 85 and my modded Squier Affinity Telecaster . The Tele has a Duncan Designed TE-101B in the bridge position which sounds really great. These are the pickups which Squier is using on the Vintage modified telecaster models. It also has a Sprague .047 Orange cap on the tone pot along with a new fender " F " logo neck plate , 1950's design Tele headstock decal and a new Red tortoise shell pickguard with a vintage style , gold plated , 3 barrel saddle bridge. The sound from this guitar is just amazing, especially when played through this amp. I have more amps and guitars, but this is currently my main setup which I use with my band " River Highway ".

Re: Current rig pics.... what's yours?

My twin reverb is 1000k's away at Crusty's house. He's rebuilding it pretty much ground up (hes doing an epic job too! - hes documenting the process so you fender amp nuts can see the process when hes all done). Anyways, my current rig is the princeton reverb II. I found a bunch of info regarding "improvements" that fender did back when they built this amp in 1981 over the regular old fashioned AB763 that its based on (albeit hot rodded with an extra channel etc). I took out a whole bunch of components which are not necessary - essentially stuff that tamed and made the amp more predictable, but were not around in the blackface era amps. The amp is so organic and touch responsive nowadays - every bit as rewarding to play as any blackface or boutique amp. Its all PTP wired and installed in a solid pine cab. 22 watts thru a pair of 6v6's is plenty loud enough. I use it with a 7 piece band that includes horns and stuff and its quite happy sitting on "5" on the master. The speaker is made in Australia by Lorantz with a cannabis/paper composite cone - tonally its like a greenback but wound up to 75watts rather than 30. Its a bit darker and meatier.
The pedal is my home made overdrive which i put together to address all te shortcomings of the other dozens of overdrives ive had over the years. Its basically a tube screamer, but with leds for clippers giving more headroom and a smoother less fuzzy grind than normal diodes. It also has a switch which allows more bass through by changing the cutoff frequency for the high pass filter. Its much more open than a tube screamer. I can have as much bass as i want when using it as a low gain fender type dirt, or if i wind up the grit, i can flip the switch and trim off some bass to tighten things up. Its very versatile.
The axe is a 335 with PG's.
