Ive been playing bass and guitar for 25 years. In that time Ive played alot of different guitars set up a billion different ways. I thought I had seen and heard close to it all. In the seemingly never ending battle with my Jackson DKMGT to get the best sounds I can outta it I thought "whats the cheapest way to really change tone dramaticaly?" that of course would be the strings. Up until now Ive played nothing but Ernie Balls and GHS in varying gauges of steel, nickel plate what have you. The ones that were good would never really last to long and the break in period took forever.
So down to the local mom n pop music shop. They didnt have the SITs I was looking for. After talking with them a bit about what they had they asked if I ever played pure nickels. Pure nickels? Wtf are those? "Mainly for jazz and blues" they said. A real game changer for some ppl no matter what they play they went on. They pointed out these new strings by some guy named Curt Mangan. Who tf is he? "He used to be Ernie Balls head tech, worked for him for 30 years until he quit because Ball wanted to mass market to Wal Mart". A real hardcore tone bastard from what they tell me. So dedicated he calls their shop himself sometimes to gauge customer reaction. When hes around hell even stop by to shoot the breeze which is pretty impressive cause they tell me dude is pretty up there in age.
End result, these are the best sounding, playing, bending strings Ive ever played on anything period. I had just put on a fresh set of Balls the week before and were "meh" at best. Playing unplugged Id have to lean my head in to the strings to hear them. Now my basic lil Jackson sounds like a freaking acoustic unplugged. Low notes boom and ring across the room. High notes are clear as day and just as audible across a room. Idk wtf he does to these things maybe its the pure nickel Idk but instead of fighting with the strings like Im used to doing now every note sustains cleanly and evenly through the body to where I can feel it.
I play anything from Charles Benson to Obituary and even though Im still fighting with a horrendous pup situation from its previous owner the tone quality increased 10 fold through badly wired pups that are at an incorrect angle. Cant wait to get those **** things fixed.
Oh yeah...so far they just do NOT go out of tune...
