Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

JeffB

Let it B
Finally got around to making a test clip after taking a little hiatus from playing cos of my CTS (yeah..lotsa slop :banghead: )

2008 Flying V- 300K Volumes- 500K tone. Custom 5 bridge-PG in the neck.

Vox AD15VT- Fender Twin and Marshall 800- excuse the noise- still recording on the crappy laptop mic :welcome:

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Sounds good, bro. The clean sounds are really nice. I like the bite and attack it has yet the warmth the mahogany adds.

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Thanx Bro-

This clip made me realize I gotta do something about a new amp-the a$$ end on the VT has gone all flabby and the feel is just as bad. I'm not happy with it all- I keep hoping it will finally just blow up or fail to power on -no such luck so far.

I know- grab a RP500 :banghead:

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Screamy fat...love it man...flab and all;)

Thank You Sir :) The general tone I really like. But if you listen to some of my older clips- before the amp started this slow death spiral (e.g.the Dean ML clip, or Charlott eclip), you can hear how much tighter and cleaner it sounds. There is all kinds of noise and flab and goofy overtones now. And of course my level of suckitude doesn' t help :laugh2:

That can't be a C5. I heard mids!

:D Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not Robert (due to the C5s rep for lack of mids) but the 300K pots I feel really shave off the extreme highs and lows of the C5 and make for a fat middy sounding pup. While its not apples, in my PRS SC250 it was brutally bright and thoughnot lacking mids, certainly wasn't fat or thick sounding in the least. In this V it's like a T-top on steroids-love it! :bigthumb:

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

The C5 is my favorite in mahogany and I've had a C5 and a PGn in a LP for 7 years now. Good stuff!

I like it with 500k pots but I roll the knobs around quite a bit.

Nice clips Bro!

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Ahh..you were being sarcastic (mids? it can't have mids..it's a c5 afterall) :D

Thanks for the kind words :)

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Nice mid crunch.

What's with all the "C5 has no mids" comments?

Crunchy rhythums, singing leads, classic tone.

I think so  I would prefer a little more crunch or rawness like a Gibson pickup, but I'm not complaining!:D

Thanks for the comments Bro :)

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Very cool Jeff. Very C5-ish and Schenker-ish, right up my alley. Love the cleans and the dirt, and the riffage.

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Ahhh new comments! :D

Thanx everyone for the kudos- makes me all the more sick to have to send the V back to Gibson :( Lets hope I get an even better one back from them :nervous:

Stevo- good to see ya back around Bro- we've missed ya! Hope all is well :)

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Hey man awesome stuff.

The cleans are great - just like the examples on the SD soundclips pages. They're multi-dimensional.

Those are all fantastic tones without exception.

Wow I dug all 3 of them, the vox, fender and jcm800. Ofcourse the jcm 800 is my fave. Someday man... The 800 was on my list before I bought the plexi.

Sounds fat and really even. beautiful tones man.

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

I can just hear the V-ness of that clip. Excellent. Except it gives me V-gas. I ned a faded with swappable pickguards - one black with P-90's and another white on ewith thta combo maybe for some priest!

Love the PG tone.

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Great tone and clips!! man, that guitar and pup combo sounds perfect together!!
Ive always liked the look of Vs, but it was recently I discovered how amazing they sound too!

Hey Thanks Bro- actually it was just the Fender Twin and 800 models on my Vox AD15VT- no actual Vox amp models going on there (though the AC15 sounds particularly wicked with the C5)

Thanks Ace! With the 300K pots this an absolutely killer combo. Great 70s hard rock vibe!

Thank You Sir- V's have their own unique Gibson sound- SGs have that brash biting "bwang", Explorers have the chunky low mid whomp, Les Pauls have the sweetness and singing quality, and Vs are just in your face aggressive-whether you are playing Blues or Metal. Great tone- def the most articulate/responsive playing Gibson as well (IME)-

Re: Custom 5/Pearly gates in a Flying V

Great tone there Jeff :fing2:

I've tried the C5 twice in a Les Paul and couldn't get along with it but I love the tone you're getting with the V.

The PGn is ubiquitously awesome!
