Custom 5 (SH14)

Hello!

I was going to go to the tone samples, but there are none of this one. I am looking for a bridge pup (chrome covered) to drop into my Warmoth LP-VW mix. I have a Pearly Gates in it now it has a fizzy edge under distortion (really stands out when mic'ed in the studio). I had an Air Norton before that (it sounded flat-lacking character). I am looking for a decent clean with the ability to do a bit of clean country if needed. I also want a solid classic distortion when under gain (without the fizz) when mic'ed.

I have a Custom-Custom in another guitar and it is pretty good for distortion but the clean is a bit round for country. My Gibson LP with BB pro's does the distortion pretty well, but not hte clean.

The SH14 sounds like a shot at an inbetween for a V mag vintage (or vintage hot) and Custom-Custom. Does it really hit middle ground?

Re: Custom 5 (SH14)

id say the c5 might work well for ya. it has less mids than the cc with a clearer high end which means a less round tone. the c5 is kinda like a 59b with more output, a strong bottom with clean mids and a nice top end that isnt shrill

Re: Custom 5 (SH14)

I play everything from country pickin to bluesrock to highgain shred, so the C-5 is one of my very favorite bridge humbuckers. From your description, it sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

And, you're in luck, because I have a minty nickel 4 lead C-5 in box, that I'll sell you for $70 shipped. They're closer to $100 new. I also have a nickel C-4 I made with an A4 magnet for $60, and also a 2 lead 59B in nickel for $60. PM me if you want any of them.
