Custom 5 vs Custom Custom

How much of a difference is there between the C5 and CC, I just recently Installed the 59N/C5 combo back in my PRS McCarty after trying a few High priced pickups.

I've heard that the CC can work quite well in a McCarty can anyone add to this, I think the C5 sounds great but real curious about the CC. I drive my 59 Bassman RI with a Fulltone OCD for heavy Rock tones.

Should I just try the CC to see if it makes that much more of a difference!

Well, IMHO, you have a perfect combo in your McCarty. The CC might be a bit on the muddy side in that guitar, which is constructed much like a Les Paul. Who knows though, maybe it wouldn't....

What you can do is take your C5 and replace the Alnico 5 magnets with Alnico 2. Do you have a humbucker with Alnico 2 magnets you're not using? If you do, put them in your C5 and you'll have a CC...

The CC and the C5 are pretty different. Like Butch said, if you have a C5 a CC is just a magnet swap away, as is a regular Custom!

I look at it like this...If the guitar has a nice full/midrangey tone on it's own then a C5 is great, IMO a C5 is a little lacking in mids, if the guitar in question is kind if bright and or lacking in mids the CC is great, since the CC has tone of smooth mids. Maybe that will help you a little.

The C-5 is brighter and more bottom strong than the CC, The CC is much rounder and warmer sounding.

I had a C-5 in my #1 LP for a couple of years and changed to a CC (magnet swap) maybe nine months ago. I like them both and I may switch back just for kicks to get a better feel for the differences. Sometimes I miss the way the C-5 hits the front end of the amp but other times the singing quality of the CC really does it for me.
