Yamaha uses nato on a ton of their guitars. Its not as pretty as mahogany, but if your guitar is made of a good piece of nato, it will sound very good.

I have two Yamaha AES series axes both made of nato and they both resonate well. They're a bit dark, but they sound good.

That's the best piece of news I've heard all day....

Re: Custom/59n Combo...

Okay guys, I'm leaning toward to the CC in the bridge and either the PGn or A2P in the neck. Why one over the other? Will the PG be too bitey?

Re: Custom/59n Combo...

check out jeffb's thread on neck humbucker. its a toss up between pg and the a2p.

Re: Custom/59n Combo...

Now the one thing that I definitely want to do is to be able to have the pickups very low. I usually will set humbuckers flush with the mounting rings. Will the PG or A2P be good with that setting?

Why is that?

The Jazz neck is like the '59 without all of the baggage. It has *beautiful* highs and significant bass, although it's not boomy. I love its clarity in the neck.

I have the PGn in my LP flush with the mounting ring and the APH in my Hamer just a touch higher and they both sound great.

Cool!! Sometimes, with vintage type pickups, especially Alnico 2 pickups, you gotta raise them up a bit.

Re: Custom/59n Combo...

BTW, the best string set that I've played with these pickups is DR's Pure Blues set. It has a round core with solid nickel winding, so you have to be a bit careful when stringing up, but for some reason the Pearly Gates, APH, and Custom all really like these strings.

I tried D'Addarios, Everly's, and Slinkies and they all seemed a bit screechy on my Hamer and LP with these pickups, but they sound fine on my Teles, Strats, and my Sheraton.

Go figure. :burnout:
