I jumped on the C8 this past weekend. also a JB8. never even tried a regular Custom before. tried the C5 a few years back, but didn't care for it. the C8 is in a alder hum/hum with a FSn, rosewood board, 1/2" brass block, both pups wired to split indepently on push/pulls. I do like the sound. it's pretty much what a lot of the guys have been saying. it's not going to cure cancer, but it works well enough to keep it. I do like the JB8 more, but that's me. the A8s don't clean up for me as well as I'd like when split and on a clean amp setting... but still cleaner than a DD did in similar conditions.

BUMP.

I got to test out the C8 LOUD over the weekend as part of a demo for Lang Amplification...it ROCKS even harder than I thought. Killer harmonics and sustain, and a rhythm crunch that's out of this world. I love it. It was outperforming similar output A5 and ceramic pickups with the same amp settings, pretty dramatically.

It got me even more excited to try a '59/Custom hybrid, too - but just stoked at how good the C8 sounds.

Yeah, when did my first C8, it impressed me when running thru my little practice amp, which is what I play through most. When I got the chance to run it thru my Splawn and it blew me away!

You guys should look into Demon8 too. After a jb8 and C8 i settled with the D8 - just a tad clearer and more articulate than the C8. A swap in of 3 hex screws under the bass strings (thighter and more bass in the C8) led me the D8 (with 3 phillips screws :cool2: under the high strings).
Folks...do the Demon, you will like it.

Then you'll want to try the C/Demon hybrid with UOA5. It's just a natural step in the progression of ... C, C5, C8, Demon, Demon8, C/Demon.

I've run it through my Mesa, but only at apartment volume thus far as I'm not currently gigging; so it was nice to hear it ( in this case through a roaring, more plexi-based circuit) cranked... it rips!

Just went from a custom to a Custom 8 last night. Love it. Its in a LP standard. I only got to play it through my small fender amp at home, but I'm excited about ripping it through my 5150 stack at the studio.

Initial impressions is that its everything that I love about the custom and More!

First thing I noticed is that it is soooo responsive. Fingers seem to just glide over the fretboard. Its very easy to shred with it.

It's already been said but I'll say it again... Killer harmonics and Killer sustain!!

It is so clear and open sounding but super tight and can get very aggressive which I really dig. It's just as aggressive as the custom but the high end is much tamer and the frequencies just seem more controlled across the board.

I am very happy with it thus far and will give another update when I plug it into my big rig and crank it up.

Thanks to Blueman and Lt. Kojak for the help and advice. I am happy with my new pickup

Next quest.. Swap the mag out of the 59n. UOA5 or A4?

The wiring in my guitar is all screwed up, but I can get a sound from the bridge pickup ('59/custom hybrid 8 with a row of hex screws) and it sounds AWESOME. The wiring is screwed up to the point where I have to have the tone knob all the way up, which makes it really bright, but it still sounds great. Maple neck thru, maple top, ebony fingerboard, and mahogany wings.

How's it screwed up?

ebony on maple with a maple top is a recipe for ridiculous brightness. the mahogany wings aren't going to do much to warm up the sound, since it's a neck-thru.

Try lower value pots.

It's screwed up because the bridge pickup is the only one that produces sound (and that is if the tone knob is cranked.), and somehow it is selected only when I have the switch in the neck position. It's a mess, but I love the sound of the pickup anyhow.
