Custom 8 still popular? new popular custom hybrid?

was doing lots of research on pickups for thin body mahogany guitars and the Custom 5 with an 8 mag came up pretty popular (I think it's now a SD produced pickup listed as the alternative 8 - sh-15?) Listened to a few clips (there aren't many) and liked what I heard rhythmically, very full. Sounds like something that would make a thin mahogany guitar come to life but minus the video by Joe Gore there wasn't much, or riffing/soloing using this pickup. on the SD Audio Samples page the closest I think was the sh-14, sounded pretty similar to the sh-15. however the last post I seen it mentioning it on the forum is from 2010. I don't even know if this is possible to answer because I haven't read any recent posts about it, but how do these pickups handle solos and riffs on the G-B-E strings? Has this pickup(s) fallen out of favor among the musicians on this forum? More recent stuff I've seen is stuff like 59hybrid bridge/59n/PGn/SLn. how do you guys feel about the 59bridge(a5 or a2), is that similar/better to the sh-15 or is there a new hybrid/stock with lots of low end but can transcend nicely when you start playing and riffing with the G-B-E strings.

The Alt-8 is *NOT* the Custom 8. The Custom 8 is still a do-it-yourself pickup. They both have more output than the hybrid C/59.

thanks for clearing that up. glad I asked, was almost convinced it was. So is output the only difference the a8 provides?

If you do a mod with an A8, it's like taking everything up a notch. The lows, the mids, the highs and the output. Some like modding a pup with an A8 and some don't.

The Alt-8 and the Crazy 8 are both designed with an A8 in mind. I dig the Alt-8. It's big sounding with plenty of output, without sounding as saturated as some modded A8 pickups. The Crazy 8 has been described to me as a little less output than the Alt-8 with a smidge more highs (or maybe it was a smidge less bass).

Don't base anything on forum favorites, posters here have ADD.

The C8 has stood the test of time, it's not my favorite, but it's been popular for a long time. There's a thread directly comparing all of them (C8, Alt8, Crazy8), I think Bloodrose did it, pretty thorough and informative, use the search.

"A Trio of 8s" Great read. lots of info there, thanks! Anyone with experience with these wanna custom shop me a Custom 8? how much would this cost me around? I'll pay-pal you the cash and give you my # and addy and all that. I think it will beef up the really thin sound from this guitar.
