Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

It should work just fine if that is the type of pickup you are looking for. What bugged you the most about the JB? The boosted upper mid spike (some call it brghtness) or the SUPER loose bottom end or both? What kind of tone are you looking for exactly?

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

I would say that I hate the whole pu. I like to play classic rock and because I live in an apartment I play through a Vox VR-15 amp. Looking for something more versatile.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

If you play pretty much only classic rock I would go for the 59, Alnico II pro, CC. If you want to throw some 80's rock into the mix the Custom would be a good idea. If you dont like the Custom, the Custom can be turned into a Custom Custom or a Custom 5 (or vice versa), in about a half hour and $10 for the magnet.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

The JB should be perfect in that guitar taking advantage of the Soloist's top end and screaming mids. But, if no JB for ya, maybe a '59, Jazz, or Custom 5.

Or for adventageous mids and less undesirable treble, the Custom Custom.

You can play classic rock on a Jackson? Who'd a thought? :chairfall

Obviously its not perfect and far from it, that is why he wants to rip it out and get a better pickup. I have always hated JB's in Jackson soloists myself! The 2 other soloists I have had the JB lasted maybe 24 hours at the MOST in the bridge position! Sounded like A$$ in both guitars!

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

I had a custom custom in an alder Jackson with a trem and the lows were too loose for my liking... the ceramic custom gets me anywhere from classic rock to metal... so maybe the C5 might be a closer match if you dont want flabby lows and not so much output

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

Well I do from time to time play stuff like old Metalica, MegaDeth, Suicidal tendencies. I leaning toward the Custom.

What do you all think about the PATB series? I put a PATB-1 in my Strat W/Floyd. I love the sound.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

I think the PATB-1 could be cool in it- nice top end balance and solid bass notes. But the Custom does seem like a good bet.

The CC will be a good choice for that stuff but, the Custom will be a bit more suited to you.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

I'm thinking about a Tone Zone as well. Any thoughts?

YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Mud zone IMO! I will bet alot of $$ you will kick your ownself in the A$$ if you get one of these!

Tone Zone, more like, lack of tone with some mud thrown on top of it.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

I actually considered the Tone Zone for my Jackson RR1, but if you're going to play classic rock I'd have have to advise against.

As far as the 'mud' of it, I love that sound and how it still has that little bit of clarity sticking out. As far as pickup tones go, the Tone Zone is my favorite of all.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

What's your thoughts on the Super Distortion?

Sorry for asking so many questions.

Pretty cool IMO. It is sort of thicker and it does some kinds of classic rock and some metal fairly well. Whenever I hear Kiss, I hear the Super D.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

The original paralles axis TB is one of THE best pickups you can have for rock and metal. I have it in a super strat, and it absolutley screams classic/80's rock and metal.

I'm getting a Jackson similar to yours very soon. Either the DK2T or the SL2HT. If I don't go with the Mustain set, I will put a PATB in the bridge, and a Jazz or an APH in the neck.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

Well it between a SD Custom, PATB or DiMarzio Super Distortion. Not sure how the PATB would sound in this guitar though.

Re: Custom custom in a SL2HT Jackson

I has the same problem, I looking for a new pickup for my SL2HT, I can get a nice metal tone out the JB but I have to raise (too much) the pickup height. About 1/32 in. What pickup do you think I need? (I always play in standard tuning thru a peavey 6505 with a mesa recto 2x2)
