Custom Custom in Mahogany Tele?

So I need help deciding on a bridge pickup for my HH Tele. It's a mahogony body w/ a maple top, mahogony neck w/ rosewood, 25.5" scale. It's not LP warm, but not Tele bright either. I'm looking for a good, classic rock and instrumental lead tone. I want early EVH meets Satch, if that makes sense. I'm just about sold on the CC, but worry about it with all the mahogany. Anyone ever put a Custom Custom in a mahogany guitar with good success?

Re: Custom Custom in Mahogany Tele?

I have one in my LP studio and i think it's awesome, it's warm with a good amount of highs to cut through the mix when i play with my band. The first thing i noticed was it brought out alot of midrange bite in my tone which i love. I think it does the 'brown' type tones really well.

IMO, the CC is for guitars that might sound a little bright and lacking in midrange with other pickups. Does that describe your guitar? Are you looking for sweet, non-spikey treble and a nice smooth pronounced midrange that will add a vowel like quality to your tone? Yes? Then go for the CC. Lew

I would also give the JB a shot! Its the Tele-Gib pup that Jeff Beck wanted for his Tele!

Re: Custom Custom in Mahogany Tele?

Everyone plays a JB. I've played them before and don't really care for them. Very brittle to my ears, although harmonics are great. I'm probably going for the CC. As I play this guitar with what's in it now (PAF Pro) I realize it's a little brighter than I'd like. It lacks the warmth I really want.

EVH meets Satch? Sounds like a DMZ Mo' Joe or maybe more likely a Breed neck (can be used in the bridge per DMZ website) would be your pup.
