Custom Custom neck model?

Can u get a custom custom pickup for the neck if so what would it sound like?
..I'm sure the SD Custom $hop could make neck pickup modified to match the vibe of the CC for you. ..Though, you'd be better-off with a Pearly Gates or Alnico II Pro neck pup, imo.

It'd sound like mush.

I use an alnico 2 Seth Lover with my alnico 2 Custom Custom.

They sound great together.

Re: Custom Custom neck model?

WCR Fillmore neck is #43 like the C type PUs and has a DC resistance of 10k. Wow the screaming demon is a 10k #43 (just thought of that).

The Fillmore bridge is a #43 13k a thousand ohms shy of a C type PU.

So the SD is what you are asking for. I want be as hard on the idea as Lew but I'm not there either. Reason...after 9 months of being on the forum and a lot of labor on my part I have 4 guitars that I can plug in to my amps' default settings that sound the way I want them.

Each one is different the way I want them and there is no resetting the eq for each guitar. If I put Fillmore's in one guitar I'd had to put them in all of them cause I had to severely re-eq the amp to accommodate them.

Better yet if you put Fillmore's in each guitar then you only need one guitar cause why would you need 4 guitars with the same PUs (sounds like I'm discounting the wood...I'm not...I just like other pickups too and need the plug and play eq ability).

I don't think the Fillmore neck is necessarily mushy but ck this out...I thought the neck PU was defective running through a 4x12 with 30W speakers (speakers were farting on low notes). Switched to a Mesa Black Shadow cab (90w celestion extended low range) and that told me to cut the bass on my amp to 1. With the bass on 1 I was able to go back to the 30w loaded cab.

So if you're a one guitar a night kinda guy give the screaming demon a try.

Re: Custom Custom neck model?

I said what I said because my Hamer Monoco came with a Custom Custom bridge and a Custom neck...

The Custom and Custom Custom are the same pickup except the Custom uses a ceramic magnet and is brighter than the CC....and IT sounded like MUSH as a neck pickup when used at rock volumes.

If a brighter pickup like the CUSTOM sounded like mush, the warmer Custom Custom would certainly sound even worse. :)

I use a custom/custom in my neck on an Ibanez . I turned it the opposite way and it sounds great. My friends rave about it. I have a patb2 in the bridge so it kinda balances out with the gain issue.

Re: Custom Custom neck model?

Lew,

I didn't believe that about the Monoco (someone else was telling me that the other day) but hearing it from you…what was Hamer thinking. I interpreted what Dills was asking for was a neck version not a 14k C type in the neck. After the Monoco experience I can see where you were coming from. If Dills is looking for a balanced C type neck what's your opinion on using a SD?

KLINKDETROIT,

No offence I just don't see a 14k neck PU. Ace Fraley model Epi's use the 14k DMZ Super Dist in the neck and I wasn't in to it. I have used a JB in the neck and liked it, mainly split though. I want to hybrid it with a vintage neck coil for the HB mode.

No offence taken...don't sweat it.

I don't know what Hamer is thinking either...putting a 14K pickup in the neck position of a $3000 semi hollowbody guitar!

Sounded decent (but not great!) at lower volumes, but when I'd crank my amps up to 5 or so, the neck pickup was just way to loud and bassy.

I pulled it after a week or so and replaced it with a Seth Lover neck model...couldn't be happier.

I agree with Lew, a Seth, PG or APH-II will be the safest way to go as they always work in the neck and deliver great tone with plenty of warmth.
