in the knew duncan tone chart they explicitate the custom custom sh-11 havin only 3 on the bass and double 7´s for the mids and highs.
so that meanos it has less bass than the jb that has a 5 for bass?

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

SD test on special standerdised equipment, but I found my custom custom to be more bassy than a JB.

Why? I replaced the JB in a cheap Ibanez with a CC, and it sounded like it had more bass....

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

what you read on a chart is very, very different from what you hear with your ears. try it first.

that said, my CC doesn't have a lot of bass but the mids are so full that I don't miss the way-low.

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

im askin this because im putting either a custom custom or an alnico 2 pro in a les paul type guitar(sort of an eduards or greco) and i wanna have that FAT bridge gibson sound.
would the A2 pro´s be lacking in the mid department?

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

What numbers do you want? all bass and treble? all mids or what? I like the screamin deamon but i wish it had a little less highs and a little more bass.

well for one thing i know is that to achieve that FAT and balsy sound its gota have mids and a substancial amount of bass.
im into the sounds of the goibson 498 pickup but with duncan logo in it. :sword:

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

Guns = A2PH

That said, I don't think the CC would be a bad pickup for you. I think you'd find it to be fat enough.

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

my 498 is low on bass... but if you want a 498 get one :D

the tone chart isn't scientific anyway (evan said so ;))

slade

i hope your right cause from that perspective the jazz has even more irritating highend than the 59 with one more hint of highs.
would custom custom=guns and more maybe?
is the A2pro good on the mids or scooped?
I WANT MIDS BUT WITH BASS AUTHORITY,thought of the air zone but dont wanna give dimarzio the credit.

Let me explain it so:

The CC is a darker pickup, but has not a bassy EQ.
That, what describes this, is the Resonant peak: 5.2 khz, which is not the same as the EQ.
Look at the Custom, it has 6.0, which has a brighter resonant peak, but also has a more tight bass.

The CC has less bass, unlike the Custom the bass is not tight, it is very smooth, "buttery".
This makes the pickup fatter, but not tighter.
The difference is the magnet, and A-II mags make the pickups darker in its voicing, but not bassier. The EQ of A-II is more "flat", while with A-V and Ceramics "boosts" the pickups, so you have more bass and more highs.

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

thought of the custom ceramic, but i dont want it to boost my sound with more irritating highs.

after researching and reading alot in the forum i put down my choices to the custom custom, rio BBQ, and the bare knucle mule pickup.
the sound i hear in my head is close to led zeplin semi dirty and buckcherry all out dirt.
getting closer

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

Ok, speaking from experience here, the CC in a LP is freakin' amazing. I have never heard any of my guitars sound so good with the CC. My Epi LP has taken over the #1 spot from my prized and beloved homemade Strat that I've played for 12 years. Last night I put the Jazz from my homemade in the neck slot of the Epi. It sounds absolutely wonderful, perfect balance.

When I took out the stock neck pickup, I was able to get a better view of the body wood in the wire channel since the pickup cavities are painted black. It's mahogany. :)

Don't let the low bass on the tone chart turn you away. It actually has plenty. I had said something in another post about the CC's low end but Inge said it best, it's "buttery".

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

to hear the CC's lows give a listen to "judgment day" by eddie vanhalen
or "unchained" it has plenty of bass

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

YEAH but, YOU still find the bas Spongey, i almost get a tendinitis in my right hand ahahahahahahhaaha i have to work doubled to the palm mute stuff to work properly
but i still like this pickup a lot... i must check out a full shred, dimebucker, Duncan custom , seth lover and then i´ll have my veredict on my favorite SD pickup for bridge/metal stuff.
i tested the Duncan distortion(dry and acid, not articulated), screaming daemon(too much screaming), JB(it lacks body, but have the tight bass) and C5(horrible mids.) and didnt like them.

i have no amp, but i had a crate gx80 it worked better, but still lacks the tightness in the bass.. and... about my technique... check out my clips and see if it´s a technique fault or just amp fault, cause NOW i´m playing throgh my 30 watts ibm pc speakers
