custom custom tone chart:no bass

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

Ummm, ok. Playing through PC speakers is going to sound like @ss. Play through a proper guitar amp and a closed back cabinet, 2X12 or 4X12, then judge for yourself. Change pickups all you want but playing through PC speakers will still sound bad.

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

i tried the marshall valvestate 80 and 100 watts, using the clean channel with the Metalzone... and i got tight bass, but not enough chug chugg.

well the VALVESTATE is cool but that metal zone is a real POS :earl:
remember that a pedal can add or in this case take away from the "chug chug"

As we bounce from thread to thread. :laugh2:

Try it through a tube amp, no pedals, like a Dual Recto or a JCM2000. The valvestates are not known to be very chugga friendly.

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

AHHHHHHHHH Guys, my problem is.. WHERE ILIVE, THERE´S no ****ing TUBE AMPS tobe tested
only crap amps
Q:(
i almost live in a HOLE!
ahahahahaahahahahahaha
lack of technology in some areas, high prices, no metal scene at all

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

Sorry to hear that man. I'd go freakin' nuts. Anyway, to the issue at hand. An idea that "might" work. Try the valvestates without the metal zone, just use the OD channels, adjust the EQ to taste. Now, if that doesn't give enough for a good chug, and it may not, see if you can put the back of the amp up against the wall, simulating a closed back. If that works, then you can add a piece of wood to the back of it to make it behave like a closed back cab, but don't close it up all the way. It needs some ventilation out the back. Just an idea.

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

The alnico 2 CC has plenty of bass and if you need more just turn up the bass control on your amp...but compared to pickups like the alnico 5 59 and JB, the CC seems to have less bass in terms of the bass/mid/treble ratio. But the CC has enough bass to do anything I want it to do. It's not so much that the CC doesn't have enough bass as that it has alot of mids...in terms of the bass/mid/treble ratio, it's pronounced midrange makes that curve look like its liking in bass and treble. But in actual practice, it has plenty of bass and treble. It's kind of like if two 6' guys were standing with a 7' guy between them, the two 6' guys would look short! But only compared to the 7' guy standing between them. Lew

trust me the CC has at least 5 in the bass
I did a thread on the tone chart
https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=51247

I'm with you -- the low mids on this pickup are very strong. And low mids on a guitar (as opposed to bass guitar) is for all intents and purposes is bass.

The CC will not disappoint you with lack of bass by any stretch. Like Wicked Lester, I think the tone chart is pretty goofy on this pickup -- they must have tested it right after testing the Invader or something.

Besides, if it turns out that doesn't have enough bass for your tastes, you can put in an Alnico 4 or 5 (thereby converting it to C4 or C5)...

Hails man, thank´s for the help
I DID that on the recording of my demo, BEFAMAL-THE CHRIST EXILE
but i used different pups and a different giutar
a brazilian strat with marupá body, pau parfim neck, brazilian rosewood fretboard and bill lawrence l 500 xl bridge paired with the dimarzio class of 55 neck for soloing.

check the song belief
i used the dimarzio on it. it´s very low output, so i sold it.

I HATE IT lack of mids.
I agree it is flat and dull to my ears and is WHY i put a alnico 8 in one
the 8 made it sound so much better i could not believe it
i wish i was around back then to get everyone into the alnico 8 instead of the 5 in a custom cause the
stock C5 is my least favortie custom

I think Seymour put off releasing the Custom 5 for a long time for a reason. It's not my favorite pickup either...but alot of toher guys love it. I think the C5 sounds great through a cranked Marshall or similar amp when played loudly, but played at lower volumes, to me, the C5 sounds to bright and lacks mids.

As for comparing the Seth Lover to the Custom Custom: they make a great pair and I find thier tones similar and compatable. I use the Seth as the neck pickup and the CC as the bridge pickup in my favorite humbucker guitar...my Hamer Monoco.

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

for some wack out reason i was gonna ask you guys about either the custom custom/seth combo or the custom(ceramic)/jazz combo.
tough call ha?
hey wicked all these custom names confuse me,the c-5 you turned to c-8 is the sh-14 or the original ceramic c-5?

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

I have no problem with getting bass out of my custom custom, but then again my amp, Mesa Boogie, is naturally a very bassy amp. Great pup though!

Re: custom custom tone chart:no bass

The CC in my poplar Fly is a li'l bright for my taste, but I'm growing accustomed to it. Besides, as stated previously, I can add bass in at the amp. I do like the tone of it, however.
