Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

So i have a Schecter C-1 that came stock with a '59 in the neck and a Custom Custom in the bridge, and while i really like the '59 i'm still not sure on the Custom Custom. So for heavier, articulate distorted tones, what would be other options for the bridge? The guitar is a neck-thru with a mahogany body & solid flamed maple wings, and the neck is maple/walnut with an ebony fingerboard. i was looking at either the Custom or JB as well, just wondering if anyone has any opinions? Thanks guys!

Re: Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

I guess I should try the 59 in the neck cause I'm not sure with my Jazz in my PRS SE Custom, but the JB in this thing is pretty awesome. It is very tight in Standard tuning or Drop D, but is really not as tight in drop tunings (Drop C...) I hope to try a Custom someday. In general I play stuff like Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Led Zep, Bullet for my valentine, All that remains... It does the job pretty well while covering many genres. Personnally I love the clean of the JB. Hope could help a bit...

Re: Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

Replace the CC with a regular Custom. (Or, swap the magnet to turn it into a regular Custom.)

Re: Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

What's the scale length? Maybe a Full Shred if it's a short scale.

Re: Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

It's a 25.5" scale. I may try the regular custom in the bridge as i actually have one not currently in a guitar.

Re: Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

You're going to get nothing but confusion because everyone is just going to tell you to get the pickup they like or tell you to swap the alnico 2 magnets in your Custom Custom and turn it into a Custom, Custom 4, Custom 5, Custom 8 or something else. But without hearing it, how are you going to decide?

Descriptions are usually BS. Just words - not tone or personal experience.

My advice is to swap the magnets too. But buy a ceramic, alnico 4, alnico 5, and alnico 8 magnet and try them all.

There's dealers here on the forum who sell magnets.

Re: Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

Custom 8 would the easy fix but I'd suggest an Alt 8 if you're uncomfortable tinkering with your pickups.

Re: Custom Custom vs. ? in a Schecter...

lots of Schecters in my stash.......yanked a CC out of a 30th Anniversiary model and replaced it with P-Rails, but for your situation, I would say try the Custom 5 (or just switch the magnet to an Alnico 5). It absolutley rocks in these mahogany Schecters and sounds better distorted or with drop tunings than it's credited for.

Nah the Alt 8 lacks the clarity (from what I hear) needed for a guitar with that much mahogany with the gain he is going to throw on his amp. A lot of people end up putting Ceramics in Alt 8's. They must not have the best wind for that pickup. Wymore sells C8's there so you don't have to tinker with anything.

But yea definitely drop that A2 that is in the CC. Either throw a new magnet in there A5, A8, or Ceramic (I'd go A8 or Ceramic) or get a new pup with one of those three magnets in there. A2's, especially in a Custom, are too lose and mid heavy for heavier tones in a mahogany guitar. You'll have that muddy tone.

I'm a big fan of the C5 & C8 in mahogany. If the guitar's wood tone is pretty warm, than a C5, if not, a C8. Hard to beat these. I found the CC too dark & muffled in mahogany, but a $5 magnet fixed that. A lot of guys like the Custom (ceramic) and some like the C4. Get a few magnets from Wymore Guitars.com. Nice guy, fast service. You've got a great PU as a foundation, all you have to do is spend a few minutes of tweaking with magnets to get what you want.

that guitar sounds interesting, how are you liking it?

hearing you on the down-tuning. tried setting the guitar up specifically for a lower tuning with thicker strings?
heh, that or an SH-5 ; ] try a 59n in it for sure

re the OP, personally i'd try a JB in that guitar. in the most unlikely event that neither pickup with an assortment of magnets works for you, a custom/JB hybrid would be very interesting in that guitar
excuse me, you're giving me GAS
