both warm sounding alnico II humbuckers, so how similar or how different are they?
The only things the PGb and the CC have in common is that they both are 'buckers, both use alnico II mags, and they're both mde by Duncan. Everything else is different. The CC is hotter, smoother, warmer, and more compressed than the PGb. They both cut through well, but if (as a lead player) you're going up against a lot of vocals, multiple guitars, and keys or a horn section, I'd recommend the PG.
In my band, I'm up against a lot of other insturnments but I still cut through. Then again, I have it in a strat with a super reverb that we'll be bright no matter what, that's plugged into a tube screamer. Anyway, I have the best tone that I've ever heard from this setup, and I recomend it to everyone...The 59n with a CC bridge is amazing in a strat.

Kinda Hijacking Newb Question:
How's the PG handle high amounts of gain? Like hardrock borderline metal gain? Thanks
I actually bought one from Theodie but won't be able to put it in for another month or two.
Touché.
I was approaching this from a LP into a Marshall point of view.
It will work well if you like a loose bottom end.
(Les Paul into dual rectifier POV) I agree, the pickup itself isn't loose but the lower frets of the bottom E string is loose, and dropped D makes the string almost inaudible. The rest of the pup sounds really sweet though. And if you swap an A5 into (which is what I did) it solves all the loose bottom problems; you lose a little bit of sweetness but it can still be attained with some knob tweaking. It's more aggressive and chunky with an A5 - don't some say the PG+ is very similar to the 59 specwise and tonewise? With my setup it sounds VERY ballsy, the mismatched coils help give a great cut and presence when playing in a group, and being the PAF that it is I'm able to avoid the classic Dual Rectifier fizzfest and bring some chunky meat out of my amp.
