Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

Hypothetical question guys?

Let's say I wanted a double creme(With a cover of course) Jazz Neck pickup made for me,would the creme match my VPAF Hot Dimarzio and what would the cost be?

Just curious right now in case this VPAF N pickup doesn't pan out?

I think the Jazz is pretty much the right neck pickup for my needs from my prior experiences...

Re: Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

I think you can get a Jazz w/ "lightly soldered cover" for no upcharge, but you´lll probably be better off asking lew or Blackrose directly ;)

Re: Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

You could always send in a Dimarzio double cream and have it rewound to Jazz Neck specs. Then it would match for sure.

Re: Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

PM?? I don´t think I´ve sent you one recently...or am i missing something?

Re: Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

i just checked my virtual hot paf in double cream against each of my double cream duncans (in case there was any change with the duncans for some reason) and nope, they don't match. duncan uses a lighter shade of cream than dimarzio does. it's kinda close but would drive me INSANE to see the color difference b/t them on a guitar personally.

as for price though, it's the same as a regular covered duncan. no upcharge from that.

like PF said...you're best bet is a rewind to keep the coils matching in color.

Re: Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

John, I've ordered all of my pickups this way from John @ blackrose. No extra charge at all. Just takes 3-4 weeks, unless he happens to have it in stock. The cover does not even come soldered on at all, just slipped on.

John has always made me great deals, and provided top notch service. I haven't ordered anywhere else, although I would from Martinsixstring.

Jazz/59 Hybrid in Double Cream... THE BOMB!

It is but I still lack another Jazz pickup....Plus I want both double creme pickups to match!

I'm going to talk to the Dimarzio folks today....The Air Classic looks like it might be close to the Jazz pickup? It's got less lows, less mids, and more highs, and slightly less output from the VPAF N? Maybe I should swap first and try?

I also have a Double Creme Brobucker coming and it would match a double creme Jazz Duncan then also? Hmmmm...What to do?

Re: Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

So wait... That means floor custom shop models are the SAME price as standard pickups, determined by the dealer? That's the best news ever hehe...

Yes....You pay for a nickel covered floor model pickup, but the bobbins are creme under the cover.

It´s not really a shop floor custom, but a covered pickup where you choose the bobbin color anyway ;)

Re: Custom Duncan Pickup Prices?

Isn't there a way to 'age' the duncan creme into the right shade? Shoepolish or something?

I think I'm going to sell my '59n and order one of those 'special orders' to match with my brobucker. Double cream looks really good!
