custom for gibson 498

would it be stupid to replace a custom ceramic with a 498 gibson?
the duncan custom is too bassy and hard on the ears when treble is increased for my likes.
would a switch to the 498 help for a smoother sound,or would it still be harsh?
am asking cause i played a LP studio twice and liked the 498´s alot.
im also fond of the JB´s sweetness

Try to get A8 and swap it into your Custom. I did that 2 months ago. I could be happier with the result. Hope that helps!!

I personally don't think there'd be THAT much of a tonal difference going from a Custom to a 498T.

The 498T is kind of a cross between a Custom and a JB. It has an upper mid spike like the JB and a lower mid spike and bass rolloff like the custom..it sounds very much like a wah depressed a little less than half way.

It's very crunchy.. again somewhere between the 2 duncans...I think the highs are less strident than either the JB or Custom, but not significantly so. Cleans like the Custom are marginal, but it is a warmer sounding pickup than a custom...not much, but a little.

what guitar is it going in?

alnico 8 will cure the treebles and makes bass tighter

its going in a very heavy bodied mohagany (bass heavy sounding) LP clone.
the SX precisely(sorta like an agile just heavier).

i thought of the cc since the guitar has already loads of bass.


its gota crunch up nice when treble is increased,instead of mushing it all up like the custom does.

i thought of putting an anderson h2+ but then again it would take away all of the PAF LP qualities.

I think you're on the right track with the CC. It will smooth out the highs and low nicely.Besides, its an easy magnet swap away.I think you'll be much happier with it.
