Custom Gauge Electric String Set?

Greetings O' Wise Ones. - Hey I made a 4 string "Tenor" electric guitar for my wife. She typically plays Bass, but finger injuries in the past make it hard to play. So, the tenor electric is a normal guitar sized "Bass" which is easier for her to play. It is tunes just like her bass in 440 (E-A-D-G)
I'd like a custom set of guitar strings. I want all of the strings to be wound, no single strand like typical G,B & High E.

I'd like to go somewhat as follows:

E = .50
A = .40
D = .30
G = .20

Do ANY companies sell a Tenor pack like that or have a pick n choose gauge pack?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Custom Gauge Electric String Set?

Just get heavy gauge electric strings with a wound third. They should be pretty close to the gauges you want (020, .032, .042, .054). You'll never use the B and high E strings, but it'll be a lot easier than trying to find a Tenor set.

Agreed! - But here's why I asked: I can't find a pack that has the third wound. Can you think of any?

GuitarStv changing lives.

I do the same thing with one of my primary guitars with a custom tuning and gauges -easier to use a readily available in the stores pack with the correct 5 of the 6 strings I need and buy the 6th string (which is the 2nd string) in bulk separately -than buy custom string sets via mail all the time of in bulk -this way I can travel and tour without a dozens of custom packs -and if I get into trouble with a shortage -can procure locally except the 1 string I keep 2 dozen of.

Re: Custom Gauge Electric String Set?

I used to use D'addarios with a wound third all the time. They're a good match for 335 type guitars.

FWIW, I string my tenor guitar CGDA with an unwound G, D, and A though. :P

Curt Mangan will make custom sets any way you want them

Re: Custom Gauge Electric String Set?

What's a 335 type guitar?
Also remember, that I'm stringing a hybrid "bass" type guitar. so I don't want any super high tones.

Guys thanks for all chiming in... again! I believe that finding the proper gauge set WITH A WOUND 3rd, is EXACTLY what I need to do!
This forum holds a wealth of great wisdom and information. It can be quite comical at times too! :18: Thanks again to all who contributed to this post!
