Re: Custom or Distortion for my RG?
I used to own an RG470 - Lo Po Edge trem, basswood body - i really didnt like the stock pickups, but on a school boy budget, i decided to get rid of the biggest problem with the guitar - the bridge pickup - couldnt stand it at all
i decided to put in a tone zone. i know many of you hate the tone zone. but what you have to realise is that it puts back in what a basswood ibanez with an Edge trem takes out. i personally feel the tone zone and RGs work perfectly together when your looking for huge metal rhythm tones. The pickup also cuts through brilliantly - almost ice picky tho - one thing to watch.
I know many TZ users that love it - because they all use Ibanez RGs. U will get a really crunchy tone, akin to early John Petrucci, that has a really vocal palm mute quality that is just awesome for metal.
if u want a bridge pickup for great clean tones, dont get the TZ. its ok, but thats just not what its made for
I still use a TZ in the bridge of my mahogany rg3120 due to its great vocal quality thta provides huge rhythm guitars
other suggestions would be the Steves Special if u prefer a lowered mid response.
I hope this helps,
Ishan
