Custom plaques for hiding holes?

So I recently aquired this:

Is their anywhere I can custom order a plaque that's 3 1/4" long by 1/2" high engraved with "Custom Made" like some of the Gibsons had back in the day to hide the hole? Also what color scheme should I have? The plastics are white and the hardware (including 2 humbuckers with covers) are nickel.

Have you tried eBay? Ton of custom engraving available.

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

Do you have any specific names or preferences? I've been searching ebay and using google to find other places and I can't find a single person that'll do it in the size I want.

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

I had a bigger hole like that on my LP Jr. Luckily, it was close and just below center of the stop tail. So I used my
Dad's "Military Wings" to cover that, and to make it cooler, I added his Lt. Col. hat emblem to go just below that.
They were both pewter over a red finish, with really old (authentically) nickel bridge parts and a set of beautifully
aged "Klusen" tuners, and man, it looks good! We all actually call it "The Col."
Do you have any 2 things alike, small, you could put on both sides? 2 meaningful objects that would go with the color scheme?
Just a thought, and wow, I had to buy a 1.00 mm maple shim as my saddle allen screws were tearing my palm up. Worked beautifully. It was on a Cheap Squire that I changed necks on. Found some smaller allen screws also, as with the 1.00 mm shim, the neck was perfect looking and feeling. It is great now. Really light basswood, much much brighter than that chambered basswood body I got from the Luthier where I live.
Cheers,

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

Do you have cobbler/leathershop etc. around there where you live? They usually do stuff like custom plaques as well, often for a very reasonable price.

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

I'd probably just place a couple of small dots (MOP??) on the top. One covering the hole, and the other making it look like they are paired around the guitar centreline.

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

I might try to find a cobbler, we live near a historic colonial area, and they probably have one. And how do you know the neck needs shimming?

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

For just a screw hole, I might have considered just putty in the hole and touch up the finish.

If you're dead set on some engraved nameplate, just go to a local trophy/award shop and have them make you one.

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

The problem is I'm not good enough with paints to get a factory finish, plus I don't know where to find it with the whole flake thing going. Also, SJ318, do you have pictures?

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

My grandfather got one of these in WW2:

I might put it on as kind of a tribute. I have to find a way to get it on without damaging it though.

Re: Custom plaques for hiding holes?

Just as a possible alternative if I decide not to put the badge on, how much would it cost to get someone to paint over it, ice blue isn't that uncommon a color so their probably wouldn't be any added cost for that.
Edit: Also where could I get this done, Guitar Center probably won't.

Christopher,
I have pictures of them on my LP Jr. And on my SG -re issue. I Like them so they fit on both. The wings look like yours, Christopher, and the Lt. Cap medal is long. On the wings there are two little pins in back I use to keep them on, the Medal I had to use Velcro, but it does not show.
Go to my face book page - just Steve Buffington, blow up a few, some shots have them, some don't and if you want to be a FB friend for 30 minutes to look around at my blown up shots, please request and and when finished just dump me so you don't have to worry about some guy you don't know stalking your FB page.
Some good personal guitar shots in there as I put things in and modified all of them. Kinda proud of it.
