custom shop actives?

Hello,

I'd like to get a Livewire Metal bridge pickup with a ceramic magnet. I'd also love an active Full Shred for the neck of the same guitar.

Would the SD Custom Shop do such a thing?

Wonder if I could get any type of clean tones out of such a setup? "Heavy metal" clean if nothing else?

Guess I could get off my lazy ass and just call them.

The Livewire Classic active humbucker is going to be about as close as you are going to get to a Full Shred neck model, without the help of the Custom Shop.

To be honest I have never heard of the custom shop doing active pickup work. I know that it is possible to do but the cost of reworking the bobbins and/or tweaking the preamp to get another type of tone from the Livewires might be prohibitive. Then again they may have a trim pot type of thing internally that can be tweaked before they get molded.

Calling will probably be the only way to find out for sure unless Scott, Evan or MJ catch this thread.

I believe that Humphrey Bear had that made for his Kelly. Alas he's taking a vacation from the boards but he may see this and come back

Hey!!

Wooow!! How did you come up with the idea for that combo? Cause that's exactly what I have in my Jackson Kelly!

So there's the answer for you as well. The custom shop will do it cause I had it done. With custom shop orders you can buy directly from Seymour Duncan. I payed $480 for my set. It was well worth it.
I have exactly the same as you describe.
A LiveWire Heavy Metal bridge pickup with a ceramic magnet instead of Alnico-5 and an active version of the SH-10 Full Shred pickup.

The Bridge Livewire has tons of Bottom End and output and screams in the guitar. The SH10 Neck has a great
Strat like Blues sound and is very evenly balanced, Arpeggios sound great.
So there you have it.

They are by far the best sounding set of pickups I have ever heard.

whoa that is a coincidence!!! :11: I also have a Jackson Kelly! mine is a custom shop, neck-thru and all-mahogany (currently loaded with a Duncan Distortion and Full Shred).

I have a stock Metal Livewire in another guitar and wanted to put it in my new Jackson, but figured a ceramic magnet would cut better in an all-mahogany guitar. but I wanted to keep a Full Shred in the neck, so I figured, hey just see if I could get an active Full Shred to go with the active Livewire.

tell me about your Kelly and what type of music do you play? I'm pretty much 80s thrash/speed metal.

also, are you able to get any clean tones out of your pickups?

thanks! :D

Hey Greg!

You know, it's actually abit scary how big a coincidence it is! :)

You want the same type of pickups that I have and we both have the same guitar. Then when you mentioned that your favorite style of music is 80s thrash/speed metal, I was thinking, wooow, who is this guy, my long lost twin brother? :D
Cause 80s thrash/speed metal is exactly my favorite type of music as well!!

My Jackson Kelly is a US made KE2 model with the Lightning Sky graphic. I ordered it in November 2002 and I got it in October 2003. It was an 11 month wait but it was worth it.

Yep, both my pickups have a good clean sound. They both have a very high output and are very high gain, especially the ceramic LiveWire. I currently only have a 30watt Marshall Valvestate amp and to get clean sounds I use a Boss CS-3 compression pedal, otherwise the pickups distort the clean channel on my amp.
They can provide all sorts of sounds. Sparkling clear clean, creamy blues tone and high gain metal sounds, it all depends on your amp.
I use my neck pickup for clean sounds and low gain purposes and the bridge pickup for high gain sounds.
