Custom shop idea has anyone tried this?

Like the 59 custom hybrid pickup. What if you had a neck humbucker that when split sound just like a vintage 69 fender neck pickup but together had a texas special sound. Has anyone tried something like this? Does this already exist?

Two single coils together don't equal a humbucker and a split humbucker doesn't equal a single coil. Both are a compromise. The pickup closest to your description would be the Stag Mag.

The nature of a humbucker and a s/c are quite different.....in tone and in construction. Coil shape and size matters, as does mag type. Then the way they are wired up changes tone.

I'm assuming this Texas Special sound you want (as the series humbucker tone) is the sound of the Fender s/c pickup of the same name? If it is then you're shooting for a cold day in hell.

Well, unfortunately we can't break the laws of physics here, and this is something every one of us on this board would wish for. However, the Jazz sounds good split. It isn't exactly like a single coil pickup though (and less output, actually). You might try it in parallel, as many like that sound too. It will still be humbucking too. BTW, the 59/Custom is one of my favorites.

Just throwing this out there, aren't the Texas Special and '69 wound with the same wire? I wonder what a tapped Texas Special would sound like...

Why the need to have it in humbucker format? Why not just a tapped Strat single coil?
