Got my S-Deco, loved it through my practice amp, but could not enjoy it in the band setting. Huge Squeal!

Two volume controls, one tone, single coil in the neck.

If I roll off tone by about 85% the squeal goes away, but I love tone on 95% up ....

Switchcraft Output Jack
(3) CTS 500K Solid Shaft Pots with solid brass bushing and shaft

Re: Custom Shop S-Deco bridge, huge feedback/microphonic problem. HELP!

At one point I had installed a p90 size tone zone in my LP Special. It squealed so bad it was unusable. I sent it back to Dimarzio and they re-potted it for me free of charge but it didn’t really help. I took it out and reinstalled the stock pickup.
I never did figure out why it didn’t work for me in that guitar.

I’m wondering if you’ve got something similar going on here?

It's a custom shop pickup. SD will make it right. Give them a call and let them know the issue. They'll either fix it or wind you a new one. I know it's a pain to send it back, but it's an expensive pickup and you want it to be right.

Something strange is going on here. I've got my unpotted Seth Lovers 2m from Peavey Classic 30 turned over 12 o'clock and it didn't feedback much.

Here are my thoughts:
#1 Try different amp
#2 Try different guitar
#3 In different pickup selector switch same thing happens?
#4 The grounding in guitar is ok?
#5 Check pickup in the other guitar.

id have it re-potted. what amp are you using?

Re: Custom Shop S-Deco bridge, huge feedback/microphonic problem. HELP!

I think even potted pickups can squeal depending on the amp volume, preamp gain & proximity of the amp to the guitar. Still, you might try contacting the Custom Shop to see if they will re-pot it for you. If that doesn't work, there might be some gain staging issues somewhere else in the chain.

Concurr on the re-potting. One other thing: if you have a microphonic tube, thr new pickup may be hitting a resonant frequency that the old one wasn't, making your rig squeal.

yup, thats why i asked about the amp

Re: Custom Shop S-Deco bridge, huge feedback/microphonic problem. HELP!

You guys are so smart. I always forget about asking after the amp or possibly a bad tube with a new pickup.

My strat with fullshred is quite. New power tubes were in a year ago, all tubes were checked for microphonics in April, and few pre amp tubes replaced....
