Custom Stack Plus with Spin a split

Just got a Custom Stack Plus STK6 and want to use a spin a split with it.

I'm not sure what the wiring should be. I have a standard 5 way switch. The White goes to the switch and usually red just gets taped off. Wiring diagrams show SD humbuckers having the red/whte going to the pot. Is that the case here with the a wire to the 5 way, or is it done another way or at all. I see that people are splitting these pups so I assume it's possible.

Can anybody share the color code/wiring needed to make this happen.

Thanks.

Re: Custom Stack Plus with Spin a split

You don't want a spin a split on a STK pickup, all you'd be doing would be creating a volume knob for the amount of noise that you let into your signal. The second coil of an STK is there to cancel out hum and has no substantial effect on the tone of the pickup.

thats my thought as well. why would you want to do this?

You may be right, but then what are people achieving with this wiring setup from SD's website, basically the same thing I'm after more or less?

Re: Custom Stack Plus with Spin a split

That's really a silly wiring diagram. The only reason I could see that you would use that would be to test to see if you can hear the difference between split and unsplit. All that happens when you pull that pot is introduce hum into the 1,3, and 5 positions.

Some people have the switch on their Strat wired to auto split in the 2 and 4 position so that all positions are noiseless, but they get true single coils in the notched positions, which are noiseless by their nature for RWRP pickups.

Re: Custom Stack Plus with Spin a split

there is a touch of difference between split and non-split stacks but the adjustable split option is a waste of time imnsho. the difference between split and not is pretty damn subtle so being able to incrementally dial in noise seems silly. i have two strats with stack+ pups and i dont split the coils. i tried it but found the difference was so small that there was no need for that option
