Custom Strat [Big pics]

Re: Custom Strat [Big pics]

Thanks folks :)

In terms of pickups, I've been testing my first prototype set for this guitar. Currently I have

A5, custom stagger, non rwrp, neck 6.2k, mid 5.8k with awg43 on top of that wound to 7.5k, bridge 7k.

I will probably have another set wound with A5/A3 split, 5.85k neck, mid pickup the same with the extra tap, and 6.8k bridge. However I will be going for a flat stagger to account for the 9.5-14 radius on that neck. I basically will be using the extra tap on the mid pickup as a solo switch on a push/push pot. It's a very authoritive tone, decent mid push and decent boost.

To the folks doubting my decision about the pickguard, read the first post ;) This is an avant garde on the classic black strat.

Re: Custom Strat [Big pics]

Just wanted to add, I love how you were very judicious about the burst around the edges. I see too many guitars with WAY too much/thick burst. Yours is just right and allows the real beauty of the grain to have its hayday in the spotlight.

Very good job on that decision.

GuitDoc, I am going to have this guitar for many years. I expect there will be a few iterations in terms of plastics on it ;) That does sound cool though, with black plastics.

Dude,if you "must" have a p/g,at least start w/Blk...

Nu uh. Parchment is perfect with the maple. I think you underestimate the coolness factor of the headstock, neck and pickguard creating a sexy, flowing, cohesive shape. Me likey.

Re: Custom Strat [Big pics]

That is absolutely gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

What are you going with hardware wise and for pickups?

Re: Custom Strat [Big pics]

Thanks again folks.

ErikH I'm going to copy from an earlier post as I've already mentioned it, but I currently have Callaham hardware all round. Pickups will be custom wound; "Currently I have

Going to have the one tone control be a blower switch, which swaps from any position to the hot middle one, and the other will invert the phase of the middle pickup for some wacky tones.

When my funds finally recover (Been getting my band rig together, so loads of expenses these past few months) I will be putting fancy Gotoh high adjustable locking kluson style tuners on. But for now going to stick with the Callaham's and a bit of money to buy a nice tuner instead ;)

Re: Custom Strat [Big pics]

Very cool. I didn't read all the posts as I was distracted from the awesome post paint pics.
