Custom vs Custom 5 in a LP with a 59

Re: Custom vs Custom 5 in a LP with a 59

I have a really mid-heavy guitar made of poplar, and the C5 is about all that works there. Haven't tried the 8 in there, though.

Re: Custom vs Custom 5 in a LP with a 59

Les Pauls tend to have really fat bass and strong clear treble naturally because of their wood/construction. They don't emphasize mids. Putting in pickups like the Custom5 and 59n which also emphasize the bass and treble while lacking mids is too much of a good thing. A Les paul needs pickups that don't get boomy in the bass and have a good helping of mids to fill out what the LP lacks. A2 pickups and some A5 pickups like the Whole Lottas, which have more mids, work better in Les Pauls. An SG, which has more natural mids is where you want to put the Custom5 and 59n.
So a Custom would be better than a C5, but might still have a bit too mch treble, but a tone knob helps that.

From what I understand from acoustic guitar materials I thought

Mahogany- Full midrange with lots of overtones, some top-end clarity but not super clear. Pretty much in the middle of the Deep-Bright spectrum. Good bloom in the midrange. Think good midrange.

Maple- A hard dense wood. Great for a bright sounding guitar. Has longer sustain, and more bite. Less overtone than rosewood or mahogany.

So I should have quite a bit of mids and slightly bright, which matches what I think I hear from my guitar anyway.

I don' t know if you'd have too much treble. Many LPs sound great with a Custom. I don't think it would be anything you couldn't 'tweak out' of your amp.

Yea, especially since I run a single guitar setup I can tune the eq to fit. Or just use a tone knob [emoji14]
