CyberJamming: Lets get it started???

Hey fellas,

I am so happy to see more and more cyberjams done here. On a different site consisting of friends, I've got to have some experience. I wanted to share it with you people, and see what you have to say for that.

First of all doing full songs is quite difficult. I am learning it right now, and setting my computer up for it. Instead finding back trax and playing on them is easier. What's done now is just that.

I think when more and more people join a jam, merging everything into one has its downsides. The file gets huge, and the info about who is who gets lost. Instead what do you say about posting whatever we do separately into one thread. Then we could use the same thread to comment on others contributions.

For web hosting, www.freewebs.com is a cool spot and provides 100MB of storage for those who don't have it. Thus after recording on the backtrack posted, each of us could post a link to their space and share music.

What do you say?

I could start, have some backing tracks that I could use.

Start whenever you are ready, Doc. People sort of join in as it gets going. Keeping the threads seperate saves someone having to mix the thing down anyway. It'll make us work harder too because if people don't like what you do they'll have the option to switch you off.

Guys, some of the other forums do it like this:

1. Someone posts a backing track (obviously not a copyrighted piece of music, but either an original piece or a free downloadable thing).

2. Then anyone that wants to can download it and record over it and post the link in the thread...so you'd have "Lee's Jazz Jam" and then various people will d/l it, record over it and then post it. That way no one has to be the Phil Spector of the forum (putting it all together) and we can all play what we want and let people hear how we interpret the music. Of course, web space is a must for this to work.

I think this is what Doc is talking about. Sound good? This way if you are out of commission for a couple weeks you can still take part in the jams.

I have a simple track I can post as well...maybe I'll start another thread.
