Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

So i have a set of cleartones(11-56) on my guitar in Drop B, they feel good and so does the tension, problem is, i cant find a new set of strings that will have similar tension in D standard, so i figured id look at daddarios new nyxl strings, the 11-49 set seems to be right, a little tighter on the high string which i dont mind, anyway im just wondering how much longer the cleartones last compared to the daddarios, i dont sweat too much when i play so i dont have any rust issues with strings, but i just hate it when strings go dull after about 2-3 weeks, (so far i dont think these cleartones will, at least from what i hear) but do the daddarios last longer as well?

If I waited for my NYXLs to go dead before I changed them, I'm not sure I'd ever change them. The only reason I have been recently is due to a lot of pickup changes, and finding the right gauge for the tension I like. So in short, yeah they last a long time.

Disclaimer: I'm a D'Addario sales rep and a former Cleartone sales rep.

Both are excellent strings and both last a long time--but for two entirely different reasons. Cleartones are coated. Their longevity has to do with the coating process.

With NYXL, D'Addario starts with high-carbon steel that has been pre-selected for higher tensile strength. That, together with a drawing process, a new tin plating process, and fusing the twist (where most breaks occur) results in the world's strongest guitar string. But it is not coated. NYXL was designed to last longer than other strings. But it's primary distinctions are superior strength, reaching pitch stability faster, staying in tune longer, and not breaking as easily. The reason D'Addario is able to pre-select high carbon steel with higher tensile strength is because they own and operate their own wire mill, which is a claim no other guitar string brand can make.

In the end, YMMV. I hope that helps.

Does higher tensile strength mean higher tension at a given pitch?

No. The tension of NYXL is pretty much the same as XL. It means the steel is stronger and can withstand more stress before breaking. So NYXL strings don't break as easily as you can see in this video (and they stay in tune better).

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

Well, would they at least last longer than normal strings, i made a normal set of daddarios last around a month, after that they just sucked, would these last say maybe a month and a half ish?

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

I have to say that video was really cool to watch. I'll definitely try a set next!

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

just got a set if NYXLs and am really liking them thus far. too soon to tell about longevity though..

I think you should try a set and see for yourself. Everyone's body chemistry is different and some people corrode strings faster than others.

The things you'll notice right away about NYXL is that they reach pitch stability faster and with less string stretching. They stay in tune longer. And they rarely break.

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

For what it's worth, my experience is that they do last a very long time compared to "normal" nickel-plated strings.

Also, D'Addario's coated EXP strings are now made with the NY steel, according to their website.

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

Seems good since im a floyd user! You guys should consider making a coated set of them, and in thicker gauge, I want these for my drop B guitar so bad but the currents gauges just dont cut it!

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

Im an OFR/D'Addario user and have been for over 15 years and Ive never broken a D'Addario and they typically last me a long time (depending how often I play that particular guitar), on my main guitars I generally change the strings out every 6 weeks or so.
I mainly use 8-38's in Eb and 9-42's in Eb,D,and C#. If I cant find D'Addario 8-38's, which seems no one carries those gauges around my area, I'll use SIT, sometimes GHS (which is the brand I used prior to switching)
I'll have to check out those NYXL's,(if they're offered in my gauges that is...) thanks for the info on those Evan.

D'Addario makes an 08-38 NYXL.

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

I am interested in trying a set of NYXL's out on my trem LP. I will have to see if my local music store carries them.

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

I've got NYXLs on my PRS McCarty and CE24. I've had the same set on them for... probably at least 6 months now. They still sound excellent. I recommend them highly.

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

I can't wait to try these. I've got two packs of these, but my luthier is still working on the fret-work and setup.

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

tell me how u feel when u get them on, im putting mine on this saturday

Re: Daddario NYXLs last longer than cleartones?

ne experience with the NYXLs. I have had a set of Cleartones on for a year and they STILL sound great.
