Daisy, what can you tell me about Orange amps?

I am thinking about my ideal rig, and i am really liking the idea of operating an orange halfstack in stereo with a mesa boogie halfstack. Since you seem to have experience in both these amps, what would you suggest? I'm not too familiar with either amp, but from recordings ive heard and my own fooling around in the store i like what they can do. Love the mesa's ability to get nasty, was thinking of using that for lead and having an orange for rhythm.

i've tried an ORANGE ROCKERVERB 50 before and it sounded great + had lots of good tones. it easily pulled off the thick Alice in Chains/ Jerry Cantrell sound but also produced some sweet lead tones with the treble turned up. didnt' have time to check the clean channel as the salesman was bothering me.

You'd probably be happiest mixing a Recto with a Rockerverb. I mixed one with my MarkIII and they worked well together. I'd dial the Orange to have lots of mids and I'd scoop the Mark III a fair bit....combined they sounded much bigger than they could get on their own.

As for running two amps....I think you'll find that after awhile you'll only be dragging one or the other around. The Rectifier's Raw setting can do a pretty decent old school type of rhythm sound provided you're not too hung up on getting an authentic vintage version of it, and the Rockerverb has more than enough gain to make it on its own.

I find the Rockers to sound smoother and more refined, whereas the Recto is one of the most brutal amps I've used. Both are awesome, but I definatly wouldn't want to drag both to a gig (assuming we're talking heads and cabs here).

yeah, heads and cabs. Is a rockerverb what i have heard called a rocker 30 or is that a whole different ballgame?

The Rocker 30 has no Reverb and is class A.

The Rockerverbs are 50w or 100w, reverb, and class A/B. Also, they have an extra gain stage.

The R30 is three stages and gets you into midgain JCM800 territory and the RVs have a 4th and get you into high gain.

Also, the R30 doesn't really have a clean channel.....yeah, they call it clean, but it has so little headroom it's basically a crunch channel that can clean up a little when needed. The RV50 & 100 both have legitimate clean channels.

Great info, thanks a bunch! One more question at the risk of sounding completely newb, what are classes (class a / class b)?

In reality, they're not all that important.....you can use a search and research the difference, but when it all comes down to it it's more important to choose the one that sounds and feels the best.
