UPDATE:

went to the store today... tried the red fuzz, i didnt like it one bit.

the blue one wasnt in stock in any store around.

tried some other fuzzes jh-2s (now discontinued i believe) REALLY liked it, but i think its not very versatile

ehx graphic fuzz: now this one is a novelty... theres A LOT of sounds to be had from this thing, none of them seemed to blow my head away, but theres a lot of experimenting to be done, anyone has one of these?. greatest dissapointment is that theyre unavailable at guitar center and my guess is that the product is being discontinued, anyone knows something?. big plus is having an eq for the clean signal too =)

i love the sound david gilmour gets at pink floyds live at pompeii, so you know what im after

you could suggest any other fuzz given the case, but its got to be available at GC! (because a friend is gonna go over to gc for me, ill stay in south america where gear is scarce =D)

honestly I think the red one sucks all around; very muddy and el-cheapo PCB board with junk transistors

But I've yet to hear anything bad about the JH BC108 Fuzz and it's hardwired with better matched and quality-controlled transistors

If you're going to buy an off the shelf production Fuzz Face the new Hendriz is real hard to beat...the plain (NON Hendrix) Dunlop is really pretty terrible truth be told...

I'd pass on either and look for a Fulltone '69 in nice shape. I have two. Best Fuzz Face pedal I've ever played - new or old. Makes me sound just like Jimi.

I have the new Hendrix fuzz. It's a more agressive tone.

FYI, if you look closely at Gilmour at Pompeii, he used both Germanium and Silicone fuzz faces. However, the germanium Hendrix fuzz that Dunlop makes was never as good as the original, and really never nailed Hendrix's tone. The new Hendrix silicone lives up to the original silicone. Hendrix used both- germanium in the beginning, and silicone later in his career. The Silicone nails his Woodstock tone.

I've never heard of anyone being happy with the germanium (red) fuzz face. Even on the web site, the sound clips of the germanium sound muddy and dark compared to the silicone Hendrix fuzz. If you wanted a germanium type fuzz, buy a Big Muff instead- or a boutique germanium fuzz someone on here can recommend.

I just got a Keeley Fuzz Head a few weeks ago. It has volume and fuzziness knobs like the others, but it also has as toggle to switch between Ge and Si. There are also more pots which can be accessed on the inside of the pedal. Even more, it comes with different caps, which you can switch out if you want to change the sound further. After buying it, the only thing I changed was cranking up the internal gain potentiometer a little more than the factory midpoint. The Fuzz Head has a pretty awesome range of overdrive to fuzz tones.

LukeGilmour: What you need to decide is WHICH Fuzz Face sound are you looking for?? The new Hendrix from Dunlop is a GREAT Silicon Fuzz Face however if you want the older Hendrix FF tone you need a Germanium FF copy and you'll have to go somewhere besides Dunlop to get a good one...Im partial to the AnalogMan myself but the Hartman NKT 275 (stay away from the AC128...no good IMO) is pretty good as is the Fulltone 69.

Alright...I am of the opinion that almost all those Dunlop fuzzes simply don;t sound very good except the new blue one HOWEVER if you like it thats all that really matters.

Also, if you are looking for versitility then fuzz is not what you;re looking for...fuzz pedals do one thing well...make fuzz!

Moving on...if you want a GREAT fuzz pedal thats pretty easy to use, is more versitile that most other fuzzes, doesn't cost an arm and a leg look into the Duncan Tweak Fuzz...great box, well made, affordable and then some and offers a lot of different shades of fuzzy tones!

Also, the Graphic Fuzz is being discontinued...in fact EHX is getting rid of a LOT of boxes over the next few years...

Other fuzzes that are cool...Big Muffs are a staple, the Foxx Tone Machine is great, those have been reissued and Fulltone as well as HBE make copies of it. There are al'so the half million Tonebenders out there but be caureful, alot of those are terrible. If you want some great low buck fuzzes look into the Monsterpiece stuff...it's not been my cup of tea but they are decent fuzzes, hand made and the prices are killer, if you want a wild fuzz look at the ZVEX Fuzz Factory...there are a million fuzzes out ther worth looking at, just look around...
