Damn, new monitor cables REALLY made a difference

Seriously. I just bought about 10 feet of mogami 4 conductor mic cable, and wired up some neutrik TRS and right-angle XLR plugs (soldering that **** took wayyyyy too much time. seriously. I could not find a comfortable way of doing it.)

made two five-foot cables. Just plugged it in and DAMN!!!! Even at low volumes eveything seems much clearer.

But the best part is the noise. Pratically non-existant. With my old cables I used to get a steady, low-grade hum. Now, the speakers are pratically silent when I'm not playing anything through em. ****in great!

But, keep in mind, I was using an old pair of 30' planet waves guitar cables on these things before. :amish:

This little upgrade comes with the stamp of approval from Krankguitarist.

Good cables make a great change. Since I use better cables for my guitar -> amp it sounds clearer, punchier..fatter.

Spend some money for good cables and you'll never want back! You get what you give.

Re: Damn, new monitor cables REALLY made a difference

Umm, might not have anything to do with the brand of cable, it could also be the difference between going from a long unbalanced run(guitar cable) to a short balanced (TRS) connection.

Indeed, thats why I said what I upgraded from ;).

Still, having high-quality cable and connectors in there aint gonna hurt things any.

Total investment was about 25 dollars. I coudn't even buy one pre-made 3 foot cable for that much.

Good cables and connectors can easily be the difference between a so-so and a great listening/studio environment or gear setup. I would say that the weak link in most musicians and studio arsenals is cabling.

When I got my Canare and Mogami monitor and instrument cables I A/B'd them against my old cables and the difference just couldn't be denied. Needless to say, my old cables weren't cheap and generic either but they weren't Canare and Mogami quality.

I find I get a lot more noise from the guitar itself than any cabling I have; but yes, good connections are critical, especially anything in the signal chain between the instrument/mic and the recording hardware. It is also important to never run AC power connections parallel to audio connections - always perpendicular, or far, far away.
