Do you do this? Use some kind of device or material to deaden string vibration between nut and tuning machines.
If so - what is your preferred method?

last time I had this problem was with my old Ibanez. Lot of string length behind the nut and it would ring out like a bell when playing. Particularly annoying while trying to record.
I rolled up some kitchen paper towel, weaved it through the strings, and then wrapped the whole set of strings with some more paper towel.
It almost looks like your strings are wearing an absorbent headband.
What kind of guitar? It's hard to imagine any kind of sympathetic ringing going on with a stop tail + tune o matic setup. Not behind the nut, but I have had to put something between bridge and stop bars recently. Not that I wanted to, but didn't like what was going on, so came down to the lesser of two evils
