Danelectro '59

Re: Danelectro '59

Don't know about it being hollow or not but I think you can add a bigsby. Without knowing if its hollow or not I can't say if you can slap a fender style vibrato without major work.

Re: Danelectro '59

I did some more digging and while I can't find anything very official saying that they're hollow, that seems to be the consensus among owners.

Now, as for Bigsby's...which one would fit best? The B-5? The B-5 for Tele? Those seem like the best two options, but I wonder if any of the old screw holes would be left exposed. I don't mind drilling, but I want the results to look nice.

Those are the same unit. The only difference is the tele version comes with a cover plate and jaguar style bridge.

I would go with the b5 if you can utilize the existing bridge. If you can't see if you can't pickup a jaguar bridge and bushing. You may need to add a shim to get the correct neck angle.

I think they are, i've played other RI's of that model and i think it was.

I just love those guitars though. if you're thinking about getting one id go for it. They're just too cool. Im not fond of the any other Dano guitars, but i've always had bit of GAS for one of those. Darn, seeing this thread is making it worse.

Yeah, the store had one of the Dano Pros too, but even in that cool aqua color, I can't really get too excited over the shape.

pro looks 10x cooler to me... For some reason the Jimmy Page shape ones (especially in black) always grated on me... Still cool though.

Re: Danelectro '59

Of the current color offerings of the 59, only the keen green appeals to me. The black, red and blue are all kinda boring to me. But that green...it's like something from a Kitchenaid mixer! Love it!

Of course, they offer that color on the pro too. Just for you, Dangly:

Y'know, the Pro looks about THISCLOSE to being a travel guitar...

The '59 is my favorite body shape ever (it's really comfortable and just simple looks cool IMO). When I had a Jerry Jones doublecut for a few days, I ended up really liking it. They have very unique, very cool kinda tones to them.

So cool that this thread popped up. I was just thinking about Danos. I don't think this is a hijack, so forgive me if it is. Been thinking about one of these for slide but I really like a reasonable amount of sustain. What is the word on their sustain(I do know that Page used one by the way)?

The sustain on them is good. The bodies are made of a very odd material, so it has a different type of resonance than more traditional wood based guitars. Nevertheless, there are tones you'll never find anywhere else in there and I'm a big fan of sustain and wasn't let down (and the guitars are lightweight, which would usually impact the sustain, but it didn't seem to matter).

FWIW, I found pics of one of these that had a Bigsby mounted to it..and still used the stocke bridge! Kinda weird, and I'd be worried about the strings not moving smoothly acorss the stock sadles, but maybe for the sorts of bends I'd be likely to do, it would work.

He had to cut away a bit of the pickguard, but it's a nice looking mod imo.
