Danelectro pedals?

I'm thinking about buying a few danelectro pedals. Does anyone have any experience with their minis. I'm thinking the phaser (pepperoni), the ocatve drive (french toast) and the vibrato (chicken salad). And then the FAB d-1 distortion.

Re: Danelectro pedals?

I can't comment on the other Dano pedals, since I haven't tried them.

I have the FAB ECHO. There are better delays, yes...of course. But for a Street price of $15--it gives a pretty good slapback effect.

The Rocktron Short Timer though, is a superior pedal for not much more money.

Re: Danelectro pedals?

I have the fab overdrive and chorus, I love the od very clean, clear, and musical. Im returning the chorus because it sounds muddy and it only has 2 settings : off and muddy

Re: Danelectro pedals?

I've got the mini chorus (Milkshake) and the mini compressor (Surf & Turf), and they are both pretty cool little pedals. Leaving "for the money" out of it, they won't blow your mind but they're not bad. The compressor works pretty well for evening out your notes and getting great clean tones, but I haven't noticed a boost in sustain at all. The chorus is swirly, as it should be. Not a $100 boutique pedal, but pretty cool nontheless. BTW, I paid $4 for the chorus and $18 for the compressor.

I also have a Dan-Echo. The Fab line seems to suck pretty hard. But the Dan-Echo is pretty damn good. Leaving 'for the money' out, it sounds better than many other delay/echo/reverb pedals. Sounds very analog. For the money, it's even better (I paid $35 I think?).

Basically, stay away from Fab, but the rest is damn good!

Re: Danelectro pedals?

Don't step on the mini pedals too hard...

Knobs break off SUPER easily too.

I think I've got two left out of the 4 or 5 mini's I've bought... use 'em a bit on sessions but never live. They're just too fragial to live on a pedal board...

At least mine anyway.

The octave distortion is pretty kool, so is the flanger but they're ultimately topped by a Voodoo Labs Proctavia & an vintage MXR or EH Flanger.

Tough competition IMO.

The other pedals were kinda 'there'.

Ended up either busted into 200 pieces or sold off.

Re: Danelectro pedals?

the FAB series switching mechanism is unreliable...

however, i own the mini series' Black Coffee- one of the better metal-type distortion units out there.

Re: Danelectro pedals?

When I was starting out my entire setup was minis. They were all destroyed either because none of the knobs remained, the body cracked, and most of them just stopped working. In my opinion, put in more cash and get something like a boss. I know it's not the same price range, but it's soooo worth it.

Re: Danelectro pedals?

Scheterplayer has a great story about how he sold one of those when he was working in a guitar shop, dumb metalheads will buy anything lol.

Re: Danelectro pedals?

the guy just walked in and said he wanted to buy a pedal. not what type of pedal, or any other detail. when I asked him what type he wanted he asked what types there were. It didnt take much thinking to realize that the FAB series was just what he wanted :D
