Yep, I've done that before. I also sometimes forget to unplug any effects running on batteries, left my wireless transmitter on, left a cable plugged in to my active pup guitar, etc, etc,...

Sounds to me like it is your wife's fault. She did distract you. You should convince her it is broken and you need another amp.
