Dark-Greenbacks???

So I just bought a brand new used 8 ohm Greenback off eBay. I was mainly focused on the condition & the cone while I was checking it out so I bid before I noticed this but this one is dark green in back instead of the olive color you typically find on them? I'm just wondering if anyone has seen these & if there's any real difference between them and the Clestion's we all know & love? The guy said they came out of a Randall 4X12 he bought about 3 years ago and they have low hours on them but that's about all the info I've got? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!!

Re: Dark-Greenbacks???

Have you got pics of it? What's the code on the label on the side of the green cover? T1220 should make it a standard Classic series Chinese G12M 75Hz 8 Ohm Greenback. If its not T1220, then it's probably some sort of slightly tweaked Greenback. I had a Vox-labeled Greenback that was T5-something and it was slightly different with different speaker doping and dustcap. Is the cone 1777?

Re: Dark-Greenbacks???

I'll try to get a picture from the listing after but as far as I can tell it's just a standard Chinese 75 hz 8 ohm G12M Greenback? The only difference is that the back of the magnet is dark green instead of the lighter olive you typically see... I think they were probably something that was made for Randall's cabinets? They do say Greenback right on the back of them & all the codes are the same as my others? I got it for $75 & it's getting paired with a Vintage 30 in a repurposed 2X12 cabinet so as long as it sounds right I'll be happy as a pig in poopl!!!

Maybe it's just how the color looks like on the pics? I've never seen a darker-colored Greenback. Both the Vox-labeled G12M I had, and the G10 Greenback I have are the same shade of green.

Even if it is not a standard Greenback, I highly doubt it's bad-sounding. All of the Celestion variants of the G12M I've tried and owned have sounded great. All slightly different, but great.
