Darn! The Wampler Ecstasy/Euphoria went home

Along with a few CD's. Hope Lazarus likes blooz. :naughty:

I really enjoyed the time I spent with this pedal and recommend it.

I found the Wampler to be the equal of the factory stock settings of the King of Tone but easier to use and perhaps a little warmer and fuller sounding with more bass.

I can see why Jeff Beck likes it and has one on his pedal board next to his Klon Centaur.

My friend AJ and I spent a lot of time running both the Wampler and my King of Tone through AJ's Vox Night Train, and we both liked the Wampler better than the KoT with the Night Train set to its high gain settings. The King of Tone was harder to control and squealed more easily.

Through my old 60's Fenders and 50's tweed Fenders the two pedals were tied. If anything, I preferred the slightly clearer and more open voicing of the KoT. But it was a close, close race!

Two great pedals! Thanks Robert!

I wish you'd opened the KoT up while you still had the Wampler to get a good comparison of the KoT's distortion settings vs the higher gain sounds of the Wampler.

Should have. But I love the tone of the KoT just as it is and didn't want to confuse my mind.

I'm not a mondo distorto kind of guy! :cool2:

The Wampler was a better match for the way AJ plays and for his amp, and the stock KoT is a better match for me, my guitars and my amps.

I hear but you should know that the KoT doesn't really do massive amounts of dirt even in distortion mode...just adds a touch of hard clipping sort of like a DS-1 in ways but much more even sonically with lots more warmth.

Maybe once the new wears off you'll open it up and try it out!

Cool.

This is definitely one of the pedals that I have my eyes on... For quite a while now. More than 3 years even maybe 4. I remember checking the initial demos of the prototype...

I kinda like the "compression" thing going on with this pedal. That it has some of that "dumble" compression, whatever that means. Indeed, I would love to compare it against three of my od's with some compression you know: Zendrive, Xotic BB Andy Timmons, and Barber B-Custom Cool. But, I'd be afraid that I would not be the gentlman that you are... Letting go may be impossible you know.

:)

Lew, there's a pedal you have to own. The Strymon Lex rotary pedal. It perfectly simulates a leslie, with the rotating speaker and horn each assigned to an output, if you run it in stereo with your amps. It's like a fully tweakable leslie cab that sounds beautiful to grindy like an old Hammond B3.

I know your style, and think you should use something like that Wampler Euphoria and Strymon Lex into your two Deluxe Reverbs. Trust me on this one.

Never heard of it, GJ.

I did just sell one of my 1934 Rickenbacker lap steels and got about $1200.

I'd like to own a Wampler Euphoria and might pick one up.

What I'd really like to find is another Princeton Reverb Amp so I could play through two of those.

But I'll look into the Strymon Lex.

Thanks for the tip!

I know I sound like a broken record but before you drop coin on another dirt pedal you really should open the KoT up and see what it has to offer...might save you some cash!

The clips of the Lex are pretty good but I've yet to find a better Leslie simulator than the H&K Rotosphere and the old korg G4, both of which I really like but I only own one...the Rotosphere. Sure, it's bit, requires external power and makes a bit of hiss but it's still a lot easier to deal with than a Leslie!

I will Christian. With Carole being so ill over the last month I haven't been able to rock out much at home. That's the reason I didn't spend time tweaking the pedal. Don't worry man: I love the KOT! :)

OH, I understand that and I'm not worried at all...the KoT is a great pedal. I just think if you try the dist setting you might not want the Wampler any more.

Best of luck!
